Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Nov 19 2020, 11:39 PM

Hello friends!! Welcome to a new GMC collab!!

This time we are experimenting with a new idea that started https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=61443&hl=.

Based on Cael's recording, I've created a Track divided in 3 parts (Intro, Verse, Chorus). You can Jam over 1, 2 or all the backings..
Share your audio and video files here and I'll mix it and edit a video with all solos.

Intro:  Backing_1___110_bpm.mp3 ( 460.94K ) : 196

Verse:  Backing_2___110_bpm.mp3 ( 1.25MB ) : 209

Chorus:  Backing_3___110_bpm.mp3 ( 869.31K ) : 262

Full track:  Full_Backing___110_bpm.mp3 ( 2.44MB ) : 286

Backing with Vocals:  Backing_with_Vocals.mp3 ( 2.54MB ) : 205

WHO IS IN?

Final vid:

Posted by: Todd Simpson Nov 19 2020, 11:53 PM

This was a backing that CAEL and I were going to trade solos over. I'm very glad to see it having a new life on GMC! It's a killer backing and gabe has done a great job with it! Count me in smile.gif

I think ill go for backing 1 and 2. πŸ‘

Very inspiring! Cant wait to get jamming over these πŸ‘Œ

Posted by: Doug Lane Nov 20 2020, 01:24 PM

Haven't even heard it yet, but I'm in! I'll probably have something in tonight or tomorrow. Helix 3.0 came out and I'm EXTRA SAUCED to use those new features on anything I can record! Good to see y'all again!

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Nov 20 2020, 02:08 PM

Great!! Can't wait to hear your takes guys!! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Nov 20 2020, 04:02 PM

I figured it would be cool to have some vocals as well, so I recorded some ideas:

 your_backing_k_vox.mp3 ( 1.1MB ) : 213

I blame you for every encounter
I blame you for every soul
I love what I know about her
But I know that I can’t go on

When reason clashes
With our demands
The righteous calling
And the chilling hands

You live your life and you take the bait
You fall behind and procrastinate

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Nov 20 2020, 05:23 PM

Yeahhhh!! That's awesome Kris! It's great to have your vocals again on a collab. This is going to be huge!

I love this idea of incorporating lyrics into the jam!!

Great idea Kris!!

Awesome you like the idea.

Can’t wait to hear what other contributions we get.

And btw if some one wants to add more β€˜metalish’ vocal overdubs we might be able to blend them in with mine

Posted by: Todd Simpson Nov 20 2020, 07:33 PM

Vocals are a great idea! Maybe BEN can do some metal style vocals/growls to go with it?

I find interesting the notes that you are playing, how this notes interact with the arpeggios that I've recorded, and the tone that you chose for your take. It adds a different vibes to the part. I can imagine that this could be the arrangement for this part the second time that it appears in the song.

This is a very cool solo mate! I like the relaxed feel during the verse and how it grows with the backing.

The chorus section has good ideas but I feel that it needs more polish there.

Great stuff!! Thanks!!

Thanks Gab,

I sometimes think "interesting" is being used as a euphemism so I thought I'd ask wink.gif I've had to change the guitar only file for download, I made that video but put the wrong guitar file with it, it's only slight differences but I was wondering why I couldn't sync the audio and video perfectly rolleyes.gif I've put the right one there now, sorry buddy. I know I don't need to redo the video because you add the guitar track yourself don't you?

Nice take Tflava cool.gif

Hello friends!! This is a new mix with Vocals so maybe you can also add fills and arrangements around Kris singing. If you are not inspired to record solos, you can also record small arrangements or whatever comes to mind.

 Backing_with_Vocals.mp3 ( 2.54MB ) : 83

Are there new takes coming? biggrin.gif

Hey guys,

This is my final idea. What do you think of it?
If its ok i will practice it for a few days and then record it for serious with camera on.

 coillab_21.mp3 ( 3.17MB ) : 82

By the way. very cool vocals kris. Sounds real killer

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Nov 24 2020, 01:39 PM

I really like it tflava! Now the whole thing sounds great! Many nice melodies. It starts very melancholic and then the chorus reminds me a bit to Maiden! Thanks a lot!!

Posted by: tflava Nov 24 2020, 01:43 PM

Allright thanks.

I will practice it the few days/weeks and then make a nice take. πŸ˜πŸ‘Œ

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Nov 24 2020, 01:58 PM

Perfect! Just in case you like the idea, maybe you can add 3rd harmonics in some parts of the chorus... or I can do it later.

Posted by: tflava Nov 24 2020, 02:23 PM

Yes i think its a good idea. In the beginning part that was originally my idea to write a melody in harmony with the backing part in Em 😁 but you dont hear that very well because the backing part is softer.

Can you say which parts you mean to play in Thirds? From which time till which time. And i think you mean that i play a second guitar in harmony Am i Wright? Not to play Double stops with one guitar

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Nov 24 2020, 02:59 PM

This is what I mean, but much quieter in the mix. I recorded two guitars, one harmonizing your melodies one octave higher, and other one that harmonized in thirds (which is not all the time).

mix:  harmonizing_tflava.mp3 ( 686.52K ) : 76

guitar harmonies:  harmonizing_tflava_solo_Gab.mp3 ( 686.52K ) : 77

If you like it, feel free to re-record it and change the things that you want! wink.gif

Hi, I've never participated in a collab before - is it fine to only add a small bit and not the full backing track part? This is what I have so far (the ending of the second part). Still need to work on the fast lick before shooting a video though smile.gif

My only feedback would be to tighten up that landing note at 00:04 and everyone will think you are the love child of Petrucci & Ronni Le Tekro

Amazing stuff!!!!

Yeah, I kept not being able to get that note right, even after many attemps, so in the end I went with this take. I will work a bit more on it. I rarely work on my technique for picking fast, but this may just be the excuse I need to do so smile.gif Thank you so much for the very kind words!

I'm now working on the mix. We have so many amazing takes guys!! This will be epic. Thanks everybody for joining and Cael for the original track idea!!

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Dec 9 2020, 07:04 PM

Hello my friends!!! I've been working on the mix. You'll notice that I've experimented with structure, and that your takes appear and disappear everywhere. I've tried to give this one a more creative and song type approach. I still need to continue polishing it so every feedback is totally welcome!

New update! I've adjusted a bit the second half, added some vocal effects/repetitions and repeated Steve's melodies in the end.

This amazing work Gabe. Putting this together is a huge jigsaw puzzle. To make it work musically takes serious talent and a golden ear. Nice!

Todd

WOW!! Super congrats everyone and GABE you are the man!!! You made this into a killer song. It started as just some solo takes and now it's a fully blown single. I think GMC should release these on spotify/bandcam/etc. The really good ones like this could be a great way to attract new folks to GMC!!!

Posted by: Phil66 Dec 11 2020, 08:02 PM

Incredible job folks and Gab's editing and creativity get better every time.

I agree with Todd, these should all go on Spotify too promote the awesomeness that is GMC cool.gif

Thanks to all involved.

You should start a video editing company tongue.gif

How about one that builds like Bohemian Rhapsody or Stairway?, not particularly to mimic them but a similar structure.

I like the idea of having something that evolves from soft to rock/heavy, maybe even genre crossing. It might also make it easier for everyone to find their spot.

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Dec 15 2020, 02:21 PM

I also like it! Those two references are very cool!

Posted by: Phil66 Dec 15 2020, 03:19 PM

Maybe start with rural blues>city blues>blues rock>hard rock>metal>thrash.

Just throwing ideas into the pit wink.gif I also like Kris' idea of crossing genres, maybe blues>jazz>funk>pop>reggae>indie>rock>metal

Cheers

Both of these sound both crazy and cool to me, we just need to figure out how to start it off.

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Dec 15 2020, 04:03 PM

Yes!! Does anybody have an starting point idea for the progression or backing?

Posted by: Todd Simpson Dec 15 2020, 07:51 PM

It could be just straight blues. It could then just change in to something heavier even still using a blues progression, just with a bit more gain and picked / muted as if it were a Metal tune smile.gif

Any chance that the last one will go on spotify? Does GMC have a spotify account? Could be a good promotional tool!

The little experience I have from Spotify tells me it is not a promotional tool, on the contrary you need heavy promotion for people to even find your track.

Yes, I have the same experience. Unless you have a big fan base or access to relevant Playlists, people won't find your track. Even Youtube is tricky, but there is a small chance to be found/shown.
