Hmm, useful technique when you drop your pick on stage and in only two bar's time the shredding part would start at 180 bpm...

I remember back at Gigantour when the guitarist of High on Fire dropped his pick either before or during a solo, he tried to play without but couldn't, he bent down and picked it up, but anyway I'm just reminded
