The band LEAVES EYES (long ago) had an album called VINLAND SAGA which sounds all nordic and such but is actually taken from Eric The Red's journey to North America waaaaaaay before Columbus and friends. He found some small Islands near the canadian coast where grape vines grew wild and flourished. This was pretty much alien to him as growing anything in the frozen north is pretty hard, but things that just grow themsleves? And the wine from these grapes was amazing. So he called the area VINLAND or "Vine Land" The land of Vines. (Grape Vines, get it?)
Here is a short documentary on the subject. LEAVES eyes album VINLAND SAGA is based on this epic journey. So if you have heard the album this might make some sense. If not, give it a listen as it's pretty darn spiff and their vocalist has quite the set of pipes.
