else is secondary. Pm me and I will explain.

I was pondering a little in the past few days - a pal of mine, once asked me "Why did you pick up the guitar in the first place? To be able to pick up chicks more easily, right?" Well, the answer is no smile.gif but that lead to my question to you:

Why did you pick up the guitar in the first place? What's your reason?

Hmmm I was fascinated by composing as a kid and I had a dream of starting a band and playing on big stage... smile.gif
That was the driving force which made me start playing the instrument.

I've once seen an interview with Steve Vai, where he was very candidly stating that he wanted to play the guitar after watching a series called "The Partridge family" (if I'm not mistaken) where he saw one of the characters using a curly white cable for a guitar - he wanted to play the guitar just to have his own curly white cable tongue.gif

Chicks, rauw!!

Altho no, I've always been a musical guy, having a mom that loves the classic 60's rock, and a brother who is 8 years older than you that plays the drums, and listens to the hard rock/thrash metal stuff, really just makes you musical.

But I've always somewhat wanted to learn guitar, mainly just to be able to play all my favorite songs, and create some cool stuff my self one day (which I still doubt will happen.. tongue.gif), I was really fascinated by the sound of the guitar after listening to Joe Satriani, especially hes first album "Surfing with the Alien", and I remember I didn't think that playing riffs would fun, but I was deadly wrong about that, I had so much fun learning the opening to Smoke on the Water biggrin.gif

But hey! If you want to get chicks, just get an acoustic guitar, and play those singalong camp fire songs that basicly says, hey baby look I can play a C chord wink.gif............ That is what most of the people I meet at my age does, and a few friends tongue.gif

I got a softspot for acoustic stuff - but the real deal, not the C chord campfire songs biggrin.gif I've been running away from those when I started learning how to play biggrin.gif all my friends were crazy about that kind of music...except for me biggrin.gif I wanted to play "Seek and destroy" on my tiny acoustic beginner's guitar tongue.gif and I did biggrin.gif

I started to play guitar because of KoRn.
I remember that me and three other friends of mine loved KoRn and wanted to start a band because of them...we were 11 or 12 years old then.So i got my first guitar at 12 (i think) and i played for a month or so and after i just got bored and i gave up. After 4-5 months one of those friends got a guitar...this friend wanted to be the drummer in our band, but his parents couldn't afford to buy a drum set so they bought him a guitar...and we started to practice and it was fun because now it was competitive and i wanted to be better than him laugh.gif so i practiced more than when i first started. I had to quit playing the guitar again because of my wrist pain, but after the pain was gone i started practicing again.Of course the pain reappeared after a while and i had to take a rest and so on...I still have those wrist problems and i think they occured because I have never warmed up before starting to play the guitar. I learned my lesson and now I'm warming up.
Of course, the other two guys gave up before they started laugh.gif and they started to listen to house music and stuff like that.
I don't listen to KoRn anymore , but sometimes i listen to them just to remember those times biggrin.gif
So this is my story...the short version! biggrin.gif

I have wanted to play guitar for as long as I can remember. The first time I heard Led Zeppelin as a kid I fell in love with Jimmy Page. I wanted a guitar but my parents would not buy me one... My parents were dead set against it. I think they feared it would be something I'd use once and never pick up again. I was playing a lot of sports back then and had barely enough time for school let alone learning the guitar.

Then I grew up as we all do smile.gif and life set in with a career, boyfriend, house, dogs all that stuff but I still had it in my head to play guitar. So one day I was listening to RATM "Killing in the Name" and was struck by the guitar and how unique Tom Morello was. I heard the song a million times before but something about this time really struck me. I bought a guitar the next day, I was 28 yrs old and have been playing ever since.

I really wish I had tormented my parents more when I was younger. I think I really would have become quite good as back then I would have been able to find time to practice more. It's a little harder for me with work, the house, the dogs to really be able to sit and practice uninterrupted. I try though and have accomplished a fair bit. Not what I'd hope to be able to do after playing for 5 yrs but it's something... and I'm still trying so that is the main thing smile.gif

I was 10 years old when I saw my father with his Coverband live on stage and said to my mom: "I wanna do what dad does!" Next day, he taught me a couple of chords and I played along to "Rhinestone cowboy" and "Sweet Home Alabama" for a week straight laugh.gif He then taught me barre chords, I started to play songs of The Shadows and started to figure out the chords to my favoutite bands when I turned 16. My father's been dead for 8 years now, but I play in a coverband now, playing Beatles, Stones and all these old classics and I'm pretty sure he'd be proud of me smile.gif

to be honest, i pick guitar i don't know why, i only started to "discovering music" after having the guitar.

i remember when i was a kid, i use to play with a faking plastic guitar with my cousin, but we really didn't had any well xD favorites band, we just "air jam" any song that was on cd player (Billy Idol, U2, Pink Floyd etc) and then when i was like 8/9 my mom brought me a Spanish acoustic guitar, first i was like ehhh why that well do i want this for : o, only years later like when i was 13-14 years i start to grab it but well i didn't knew anything and at the age of 14, i went to my cousins house (other one) and he had a Strat and i was like WOW! this is so different from my Spanish guitar (at that time i was having my Pop/Rock/Punk period where i listen to bands such as Green Day, 3 Doors Down, Blink 182 etcetc..)
Then at the age of 15 almost 16 i got my first and still on of my favorites guitar an epi sg special and a Micro Cube and there i start my (80's Glam Metal and Metal period where i start to listen to band such as Guns and Roses, Metallica, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, Iron Maiden, Dio etcetc, and there 2 guys made me wanna grow as guitar player Slash and Randy Rhoads).....(...) and ending up here, falling in love by Dream Theater and
Megadeth, and alot of guitar players such as G.Govan, Marty Friedman, Richie Kotzen etcetc.

sorry about the errors q:

I'm a music fan since I have memories... I remember listening to the Ninja Turtles cassette when I was just 6 or a bit more.. laugh.gif I think that I decided that I wanted to be a musician and play the guitar in a rock band when I discovered the band Gun's and Roses and their guitar player Slash.

It was for the chicks man what can I say. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

No not completely anyway. tongue.gif When I first heard a live band I thought it was pretty cool, the big sound, the vibe in the audience, and especially the drums were so cool. Then one day I went over to my friends house and he picked up a guitar and played "Black Dog" and I knew I had to get into it.
