By affordable i mean around 1000 $. I want a guitar for heavy, screaming riffs and soloes and down tuned metal (drop D mostly). I now use an EMG81 bridge position, and I want a similar tone.
Of course it has to be nice and easy to play. I want quality smile.gif

I have read some Ibanez RG reviews here, and I think they might be a good choise. What do you guys think? Are they apropriate for metal? (mostly thrash metal).

Are there any guitars in particular you would recomend? Brand doesnt matter

Not too cheap, yet not to expensive smile.gif

Even Meshuggah uses Ibanez and they play on enormously drop tuned guitars! Ibanez is most versatile guitar ever! You can't go wrong with it!

\Seconded (of course!)

For $1000 you can get a prestige Ibanez such as the 2550e and some change - they are really excellent guitars.

You could also maybe get a high end Schecter, but I am not so familiar with them.

For that money you can even get an Ibanez Prestige 1527 which is a 7-string so you won't even have to use dropped tunings. you'll have all you need in a standard tuning and you can go low to B without tuning your guitar!
