Hi!
i'm looking forward to study jazz guitar and i'm already practising together with my guitar teacher. he teaches me how playing jazz works: scales, voicings, cordal changes etc.
But i also want to develop my technique, a clean and save playing SPECIFIC im thinking of some daily exercises or links to a advisable gmc lesson on the site to prepare myself best for the examination. i have 8monts and im practising a minimum of 3-4 hours a day. Can you help me out?
Thanks a lot guys!
Hi Odin
You'll have to be more specific for us to help:
1) Do you have a video or audio of your current playing so that we can see what you need to improve on?
2) What will you be doing for the examination? Again, so we can choose the right exercises.
Cheers.
Try and learn through tunes as much as possible. If you want to work on chords, arpeggios, licks and scales, do it through a tune like Autumn Leaves, Summertime or Blues Bossa. That way you get the material down and you learn how to play a tune at the same time.
Also, spend time transcribing solos by your favorite players. Then analyze the solos to see what licks you like, what scales they use over certain chords etc.
Transcribing and learning tunes are two great places to start when working on jazz.
Hi mate! Dark dude's question are very important to know what's your level and what things you need to master for the exams.. please give us that information.
@ Matt Warnock: thanks, i will notice that!
@Gabriel Leopardi and dark dude: ok i will record something and give you the requirements for the exam, but it will take a few days!
see you soon!
Looking forward to what you will post and will also come up with suggestions once we get a clear picture of your playing
