If anyone knows a mic that matches these specifications then I'd be very interested to hear about it. Matt  What basically is the difference between dynamic and condenser mic is that dynamic one has limited pickup range, and condenser mic picks up sound within a whole room. Also condenser mic needs power to operate, referred as "phantom power". This can be battery, via audio device, or USB. Condenser is better suited for vocals and acoustic instruments, and dynamic is better for primary amp cab mic or on stage mic. I was really hoping I wouldn't have to go above £100, but do you think I need to to get something good?

You can get something like Rode NT1, it's a great condenser mic for starting up!

Well if you can go above 100quid go for it! Nothing wrong of having more quality mic. I think NT1 could finish the job in the end of the day, but I wouldn't suggest not getting nothing better of course. Just don't go for a much pricier model and you'll be OK of course.
