Is it possible to pitch shift a recorded guitar to act as your bass? But obviously as a clean tone with no effects no distortion etc?

Yes but it doesn't sound great, it sounds kinda thin.

It does work but as Matt23's pointed out it doesn't sound a good as a real bass sound. But without a bass, if you've got a pitch shifter then why not. Good thinking.

Bah, could try it but i see how it wouldn't sound so good. Strings are nowhere near like a bass nor the pickups i guess it's like playing B standard on a .9 set

In theory you can do it, but I do not think it will sound any good...I would advise programing a software bass VST like trilogy, broomstick bass or virtual bassist. Those will give you amazing results!!

You can always use some octaver from guitar modeler software to achieve a bass-like sound, but it will never sound like bass.

I didn't think broomstick bass sounded that good tbh. I don't like the kind of clicky sound you get from it. I know trilogy is good because i've heard samples but i think at the moment it's not possible because of the cost. I'm trying to find the best solution at the moment Yeah broomstick bass isn't the highest quality option but generally it will sound better then guitar emulating bass...If you have it maybe you can play with it a little more to get a sound you like...I guess best solution would be to use some kind of VST for emulating bass sound over other options. VSTs are sometimes better solution for bass then recording real one (if you can't record real bass in such high quality). -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net

Virtual Bassist has some very decent bass tones, it doesn't cost that much, and it even has premade grooves in various music styles and amp& effects modelling. Nice piece of VSTi

I've used guitar as bass sometimes. Wasnt too thrilled with the results, but i got a somewhat usable sound one time.
I connected the guitar straight to the hi-z input of the soundcard (no amp/preamp first in chain), then into Guitar-Rig for a octav effect and then into Ampeg (it's like a guitar-rig for bass if you dont know it). -------------------- Guitars: Schecter Stiletto Classic, Jackson SLSMG, Ibanez RG-380 Japan, Gibson Les Paul Studio

Hardcore Bass is your solution. Don't lose time on thinking how can you do to get a bass sound with the guitar, because you'll never get it. Write down the bass lines and use this Vst Plugin. I use it in the studio of my band for the bass lines of guitarists solo project and you can get a great bass sound. Let me search for some pieces where I used it and I upload them for you.
