I was wondering if there's another option of string gauge for D standard besides what i'm using now. It feels like the top strings are a bit floppy although they stay in tune they still are somewhat hard to get a chugging feel to them. the treble strings i wouldn't mind staying the same or even being a little bit less tense.. I'm using .49's to .11.. any options and if so what adjusments would i have to do to my guitar

Hi enlo,

I use these by Ernie Ball. It even says they are optimal for detuning biggrin.gif

http://i.pgcdn.com/pi/0/72/09/7209810_260.jpg would those work? i don't wanna go t0o high on the bass strings, mostly just lower the tension on the treble strings.

I think 50's will work as well, I use them on my other guitar which is usually in standard tuning. But I sometimes go to drop d with it and it works.
I think the thicker ones stay in tune a bit better though.

I have not felt much reduction in tension on the treble strings between 9, 10, 11, sets. But maybe that's just me wink.gif I do HATE having too much tension on the high strings. Again, a personal taste. For me it just wrecks a guitar's playability. My hard tail guitars always seemed to have less give, in general terms, IMHO, than my guitars with Locking Trems so I prefer guitars with locking trems and I"ve SOLD ALL of my hard tail guitars (Except for my Fretlight of course, but that's more of a trainer than a guitar) . But, again, like everything else in the world and especially the world of guitar playing, some folks really honestly feel the exact opposite way and HATE locking trems and play only hard tails. So there's that smile.gif

You may need to have your guitar setup by a pro to adjust the tension on the strings by making adjustments to the guitar/bridge/etc. If you have never had your guitar setup, it's time. If you have, it's time for a tweak smile.gif
