Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Country Ballad Solo by Chris Shofner

Hi, I really enjoyed working on this beautiful solo, I hope you will have as much to listen to it, the sound and the expression being different (I played it as I felt)

Hi Farine!

Great to see you playing this lesson. Your overal playing is good here. There are basically two main elements that I would adjust here:

- Dynamics: You tend to play everything softly, while the original lesson has a lot of dynamics work. The best to get the most from the lesson would be to dedicate some time working on each lick, listening with attention on details and emulating the instructor's playing. This is a great exercise to develop expressive elements.

- I also notice that you play most of the notes with downstrokes while Chris combines different picking directions to give everything more dynamics and "life".

- There are some faster licks (like the one at 00:15) and mostly those that include legato that has missed notes or small timing issues. I think that the more you play this one, the tighter these will sound.

That's all by now, keep on the hard work! It's a 7!

Hey there!

Nice lesson you have found out there smile.gif There are some great combinations of licks that sound like designed for a slide guitar. That's one of the most characteristic pieces in this lesson. I thinmk you could spend some more time on getting that simialr flow as Chris performance has. It about the way you sort of "delay" the bends and the way one note overlays another. In original take it sound like a real slide guitar while you seems to mis with a pitch sometimes and I feel like your cutting it too fast.

The bridge tone is ok even if slightly darker than a typical single tone in tele but still usable for this lesson. Try to get more of "sharp" tones range to extend your dynamics and it will get some extra bite smile.gif

This is a beautiful interpretation of the lesson - love it!

I think there are some inconsistencies in your picking that work to your disadvantage - and I have chosen to focu on these in my personal video for you:

Over all this sounds great - you get an 8 from me!
