Hey guys,

Today I started practising Ian's sweeping lesson. I recorded myself while doing the sweep I practised today and I was wondering if I'm practising it the right way. The basic stuff I already know. The right hand movement is correct, left hand movement is okay (I know what to do, but it needs practise), but I'm not sure about the dynamics. Should I hit the strings harder so I have more.. what's the word for that.. articulation?

Anyway, I'll upload it here. It's really short, but it's all I got at the moment!

Since the notes are grouped in fours, try accenting every fourth note.

Hmm. Accenting every fourth note? Feels uncomfortable tongue.gif!

Sorry to be questioning you, but.. shouldn't it be fluid anyway? When I hear accenting I really think about steady blocks of 16th note powerchord progressions. BAM bam bam bam BAM bam bam bam, you know what I mean?

It is good to accent a bit each first note in group,
specially if you're new to sweeping.
Otherwise you might learn to play it kind a fast and fluid
but when you record and slow it down you'll hear that
you're swallowing some notes.
Play harder as well, listen to every note you're playing
and concentrate on grouping with tiny accent on each 4th,as Matt said. smile.gif

I will try doing it like that. It's still uncomfortable though biggrin.gif Could you guys maybe post an example of how my sweep should've sounded?

Depends of speed, that is all about.

But if you learning it now slow enough and without "hearing"
each note or grouping it could end up pretty sloppy when speed up. smile.gif

More like the accents are in your head, in your head you make the groupings, not necessarily sounds like you are putting that accent

Yes I agree with this. Groupings can be accented in your head, so you can apply the same pattern for different note values and not get lost when fingers start to accent some notes by themselves.
