GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ First Gig Coming Up!

Posted by: Guitarist16 Dec 1 2008, 01:23 PM

Hey GMC,
My new band and I are playing our first show on Friday. I'm not too nervous, because I can practically play the songs sleeping, but I was just wondering what you do before a show. Any advice is great.
Thank you,
Alex

Get overly excited lol. I love playing gigs with my band but I do get too excited before hand. Just make sure you look like you're having a good time and if you are playing the songs well and have a good energy to your performance then the crowd will take from this and be more willing to watch with interest than if you looked bored and uninterested smile.gif

Best of look with it and let us know how it goes smile.gif

Okay, thank you. Pretty much all week we have been working on stage presence. Trying to move as much as possible while playing the right notes. The whole thing is going to be recorded so i'll post up the link when its up. Thanks again.

Oh man, I believe there is nothing that can prepare you for that, the best is have the songs rehearsed quite well, because on stage it is a different deal. Try to have fun, I know it is easier said than done.

How are you doing under pressure?
Some people cope with that better than others
I find it extra motivating if you have something that gets you emotionally going every time you think of it. I do that before the gig and everything sounds pure and from heart. I also like to put my mind into different reality - like I am playing for somebody or something I really care for. That also brings extra emotions.
So my advice is be emotional when playing as it will connect you to instrument more than just hitting the "right notes".

I don't think about the gig at all, and have one beer when I finish the sound rehearsal, but don't listen to me mate, you could end up drunk! smile.gif

Just kiddin mate of course, be yourself, and don't worry about it. On stage just smile and have fun, and it will be OK.

most important thing I think in a gig is attitude. you are an artist on stage, and you have to believe that.

good luck, and take some pics and videos if you can! wink.gif

Well before the gig I try to relax and do a little warm up on the instrument...If I get cold hands I try to warm the up mentally (it works) smile.gif ehheeh If you know the songs everything will go smooth..And If you make any mistakes during the show just keep going (never ever stop playing!!)..People in the audience won't probably notice those small mistakes...Just have fun and headbang and you'll be ok smile.gif
