GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Hello!

Posted by: LEO89PRIEST Apr 30 2019, 03:11 AM

Hi everyone,

My name is Angel and I'm from Bogota, Colombia and I'm glad to be here at GMC smile.gif . I'm a computers engineer but I love music. I've been playing guitar for 10 years now. I love metal music and my favorite band is Dream Theater.

I know a little bit of music theory and actually have composed a couple of songs (kind of rock ballads) but I'm not really really happy with the final result... still I know is a good point to start. I'd love to be a great composer, that's my dream, and be able to play different styles of music, not only rock or metal.

I have been struggling for the past months with some advanced techniques like sweep picking and unable to play fast solos, is like my hands don't work together, you know that feeling, right? rolleyes.gif sometimes I think I don't have enough patience to learn, or maybe I'm not doing it in the right way (through tutorials in Youtube) and really got frustrated, even though I'm not totally unhappy with my current level.

My gear is a PRS SE Torero which I love a lot, a Digitech RP360XP pedal and a Laney LG20R amplifier.

Any advice will be really welcome. Any questions you have, I'll be glad to answer them.

Thanks a lot!

Angel.

Welcome aboard man!! I am a computer engineer too (not working as that though). I am also on the same boat!

The trick is to keep practicing, analyzing what is wrong and doing it slowly. The more you practice, the more confident you become. I am doing the same thing. The fun thing is after sometime or a long time, you realize, wow, i can do that now. smile.gif

Anyways, Welcome to GMC and there are tonnes of lessons and helpful instructors here who can surely help you. cool.gif rolleyes.gif cool.gif

Hello Angel!! It's great to see you here!! Welcome to GMC!!! smile.gif

Composition and technique! Both things are amazing! Most of my life has been focused on developing composition and guitar technique. There is not a big secret... PRACTICE is the key. This can be obvious when talking about technique, but composition, creation, creativity also needs training and practice... the more you do it, the better you become.

There are important things to learn, and to do, in order to make the journey more efficient, and that's why you'll enjoy being at GMC. We can guide you with your guitar practice, suggest the right lessons for you, monitor and give feedback about your playing. On the other hand, we can give you the most important harmony and theory concepts, help you to analyze and understand your favorite music, and guide you with your own compositions.

In other words, you are at the right place mate. Let me know all your questions! smile.gif
