Original lesson: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Soul-Guitar-Lesson/ by http:///instructor/Stephane-Lucarelli

This is my first REC take.

I recorded this using an old Line 6 POD UX1 into Audacity using a homemade (Warmoth) strat I made and modified over the years.

I really like Stephane's lessons and musical phrasing.

Thanks for your time

Hi mate, congrats on your first REC take!!

This lesson is a very good choice because Stephane's phrasing is very creative, groovy and full of dynamics. You've already learnt all parts and phrases, and you can play most of the parts clean and clear. Now it's time to focus on expression details that will take your playing to a new level.

The elements that needs some attention are timing, dynamics, articulation and intonation. Regarding timing, I notice that some phrases are not going tight with the backing track, while some other go tight but could sound groovier. I recommend you to listen carefully to your take and compare each phrase with the original to notice what I'm taking about. While doing it, you should be able to hear the other elements that I listed. Articulation is related to the duration of the notes, and the connection between phases.

Dynamics are essential in this style and Stephane manages this element amazingly. Once you improve groove and articulation, this is the next element to adjust in your phrasing. Listen to the original lesson and notice how dynamics (different intensities) are used in an expressive way.

By intonation I mean bending pitch but also guitar tuning. I think that your guitar has little tuning issues, are your strings too old? or maybe your guitar was not set properly.. check it out!

Ok mate, I'll give you a 6, because this take passes but there is more room to improvement.

Cheers!

Hey there!

Congratulations on your first REC take. Stephane's style is really smooth and beautiful. I don't wonder why you choose one of his lessons.

He has a very specific touch - I would say there are two situations in his playing:
1. He playes ultra soft with flat pick-to-string angle, if he uses bright amp setup - result = warm basis with jenough edge to get some sparkling on highly accentd notes.

2. Is a situation that takes place in this lesson - He rolls off some treble to have more headroom to play harder at some points but still keep the warmth of each note.

Refereing to abve your tone is too bright for this lesson and you could actualyl play slightly stronger at some points. You try to go through this lesson with a solution #1 from above - trying the get that warmth only from your hand. It results in some parts having wrong (compared to original) expression and dynamics.

If you love this kind of playing I think these ascpects are absolutely most important. Besides them I belive you are able to detec the spots were you were slightly off with the timing or where you had some "finger slips" smile.gif

Very nice - and well done dialling in a warm break-up sound!

I would like to hear your take in a more balanced mix, your guitar is much louder than the backing and this really accentuates any mistake you do.

I do agree with what's been said by Gab and Darius, but given that this a level 4 lesson I think you are doing pretty good. You get a 7 from me - can't wait to see more REC takes from you!
