Well i jut got back from it and i must say it dident really go that well

The first thing i was going to do is listened to two song and choose one to play...... I was going to make the song in my own way bt i dident really succsed with it.....

Next of was to play a song i have choosen to play, Sabaton Primo victoria.

The song went on really good but i got really nervous that my legs tarted chaking but i got through the song quite nice....

Next i was going to play a blues improvisation and it went pretty good.......

After that came the theory part and this is my biggest weakness... Listen what chord they are playing and rading sheet is my biggest weakness.....

All togheter for me who have never played togheter with a band and never play infront of people it went pretty good but i think i failed becasue of my lack of theory knowledge

Well, keep your hopes up.
After all, they want students there, not teachers!
If you think you failed in some areas but showed good willingness to learn, you might very well be accepted!
Let us know either way man!

This was an admission exam right ? I think you did very well because if you did perfect on everything you wouldn't need to go to that school! They are expecting students and they are doing this evaluation to see if you are musical and have proper "skill" to begin with in order not to accept someone who hasn't seen guitar in his life smile.gif Keep your spirit up while you wait for the results..

I've interviewed prospective university students for many years.

In my experiences they are more often than not both nervous and believe that they have performed worse than they actually do. That is, they tend to be their own worst critic. Also, keep in mind that the other interviewees will also almost certainly have been nervous and may also not have performed as well as they are capable. A good interview panel can take nerves etc in to account wink.gif.

When I viva PhDs my first question is always to get them to assess their own thesis - to date the better ones are always more reflexive and critical of their own work. Those PhD candidates who need to do considerable work on their thesis to pass, if at all, often lack that critical capacity. Here, often a good tactic is to turn around and say, 'I know that this area needs additional attention and I'm going to address it by doing this.'

So try not to worry too much, you may well have done much better than you think smile.gif .

When I did my audition I thought it was a terrible performance. Later I found I had 100 points (max). I don't like these auditions, always stressful but I got the place at school.

To me it seems stupid in some ways to hold an evaluation to be a student.

You want to learn not teach!

But who knows maybe they have that logic and you will be fine!

Emir, what did the music school do for you? What did you get out of it, and what did you have to do?

Sounds to me like you did good superize !

Always after audition we all feel like we could have done better, but the thing we forget is you don't get graded by your ability but rather get compared to other participants as well. So for example, if out of 100 people doing audition, evaluation showed that level is lower than expected you got in 100% no questions asked. If on other side there were lots of exceptional applicants, chances are you might not get in.
Thats reality and really heavy one to face for some people...

I hope you got in, I am cheering for you man ! smile.gif

Emir, what did the music school do for you? What did you get out of it, and what did you have to do?

I am lookinig for the topic I was talking about all this. It was a big story smile.gif If I don't find it I will tell you here again.

Basically the school gave me qualification to get the job anytime I want. Now, do I like the job? NO. I don't do that job anyway (teaching at university) but I am happy I have that degree. Why is it important? Well, if everything else looks like a bad choice for the career, I always have that degree to get the job and never be "hungry" smile.gif BUT... Teaching at school everyday from 9 to 5 in the classroom full of Vai and Satriani addicts is a nightmare. They knew, before they enrolled, they will never change and accept some different rules in music and life. It's a big problem. I have never figured out why they ever wanted to enroll. Just showing off with their expensive guitars and exposing their ego wasn't worth £5.500 per year. I had many of them in my class and they didn't like to see me with my HAMER playing Satriani because that's not the apropriate guitar for it smile.gif I was the best student there but these things were driving me mad. Now imagine how is to teach a class of 20 people in one group then another 20 in the other and so on...

What I had to do... just an audition like for any college. Superize had pretty much the same thing as me.

Emir that sucks. I'm with you being a total hell to be a teacher teaching kids and there all just want to show off and stuff. Totally lame and not what playing guitar is all about. Hell, if I ever had you as a teacher, I'd be more like Greg Anderson and just keep pounding all this Vai and Satch pretentious players with stoner/doom riffs.

Have you seen anybody in the audition, or did anybody saw you performing? I think most of people are right when they say that you are probably thinking the worst of you. We often tend to feel that way, but in reality, if you have some freights, and were shaking, this means that you worked prior to the audition, and that you really cared that you will go through it nicely. Don't worry, and hope for the best mate.

Don't be too hard on yourself.

Do you think Monte/lcsdds had to do a simple tooth extraction to get into dental school? ohmy.gif

It's only a song. The worst that can do wrong is you blow it.

I felt the same way as you when I auditioned for music school. I forget what song they asked us to play (4 guys that had never met before), but as I recall, it sucked pretty bad, yet they let us in to the school any way.
