I have problems with bends on the first string too, the problem is that there's not enough sustain so the notes "die" too quickly. Don't know how to fix it though :/

Try Classical vibrato on these strings. Ben has a lot of vibrato lessons that could help. If you want normal vibrato, practice should make it perfect.

I've recently put a lot of effort into this, because of EMULATOR. As Ben already mentioned, you can do the "side-to"side" which I didn't know existed until 2 weeks ago (thanks Ben!!)! Also, you can try to bend "up" towards the low E string. Other than that, I try to now pay special attention to exactly WHERE my finger is placed between the frets when I need to a rockin sustained note on the high E on higher frets. Sometimes, I was unknowingly cutting off the resonance by not having my finger placed precisely between the frets. Also, I pick hard and solid. Between the 3...
-side to side vibrato -PRECISE fretting (don't cut/dampen your sustain with your finger meat! ) -and if you have the first 2, pick solid like a boss!! and BAM!! You've got more sustain on a high E string note!! It's been working for me lately, anyway! I have problems with bends on the first string too, the problem is that there's not enough sustain so the notes "die" too quickly. Don't know how to fix it though :/ -------------------- Check out my awesome Nintendo Cover-band, EMULATOR!! http://www.reverbnation.com/emulator Now.....go practice!! |

yep - high E is a pain - mostly because you can only bend up into the B'string which will easily ring-out too so you have to be creative about how to silence that bugger! Practice makes perfect - just gotta bend it more than you'd like to until it feels natural.
-------------------- The more I practice, the more I wish I had time to practice!

First up, I"d suggest making a short vid on youtube so we can see what going on? I'm sure the GMC crowd can help!
