GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ New Lesson Rating Feature

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl May 14 2009, 02:57 PM

The purpose of GMC is for YOU to get the best possible learning environment. This means that we constantly need to improve and question the site and its' features.

Today we have added a new feature which allows you to rate a lesson. Log into a lesson and you will see a new icon in the upper right corner - click it to rate the lesson! We are looking forward to hear if/how this works for you.

You will also find a new tab below the lesson video - which says "Statistics". In there you will find information about what others thought about the lesson, how many views it's got and which members currently are watching / practicing it.

In the long run - we hope this will lead to new lessons that suit your needs even better! smile.gif

On a different topic - you will also find that we have given the lesson search engine a little tweak. Try searching for your favorite terms and see if you can discover some new cool lessons smile.gif

Excelent new feature! This will guide us a lot! smile.gif

Posted by: Praetorian May 14 2009, 03:46 PM

Awesome new features! I noticed something strange though. When I click on Rate...nothing happens. UNTIL, I click on Statistics tab...then if I click on Rate, I am able to choose a rating. Not until I click on Statistics tab first though.

Great additions Kris, nice to see the site always improving! smile.gif

Just rated Gabriel's BSC lesson. For kicks and giggles, I rated it twice and noticed after refreshing the screen, the rate count did not change which is good. This way you get an accurate rating. However, on the second rating it still tell's me "thank you for your input etc..." Might be useful to have something saying "you have already rated this lesson" or something along those lines. Minor suggestion but I thought I'd throw it ou there. smile.gif

It did not work for me either. I will try clicking statistics tab and see what happens. Using firefox.

Just click on vote twice or three times, there will appear a text that you can see info in statistics, and that you already voted, then it`s done.

Firefox? Don`t tried it.
On IE no problems, on Opera too.

Thanks for the great add Kris! I really love the idea...

For me the only hassle with it is that no although I've verified my paypal stuff for a lesson it requests it again. But that's only a click

On Firefox, yes.

If I make the browser size smaller, more gets truncated. But even at full size, much is lost of the print. Using a lap top. Happens every time, I showed the picture so that left no doubt about it.

edit: I tried IE. Still had issue of having to click the stats tab first. But the truncation was apparently not there, I saw 4 choices, the last one being None. So this appears to be problem using Firefox.

Hey,

Will this lead to deleting low rated lessons? i hope that wont happen.

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl May 14 2009, 04:40 PM

Thanks for all the reports - we will disable the feature for a little while to do some tests. I hope to get back soon!

Posted by: NoSkill May 14 2009, 04:44 PM

This is a good idea for sure!

I feel your choices were pretty good for a blind rating system. Those can be pretty misleading without care choice of selections. Only thing, perhaps people should be asked to only vote for lessons in a genre of there interest. For example, I myself consider two words as red flags that I will not have interest (at least at this time in my life), Funk and Fusion. Although a recent Ivan lesson on RHCP called it funk, and I did not see the funk in it. I mean to me funk has to have an element of "They say that cat Shaft is a baaaaaaddd ************.......shush yo mouth....jus talking 'bout Shaft" element to it. And I heard none of that in RHCP.

But to the point, just because funk and fusion don't do it for me, does not mean that I am going to rate them as not cool sounding. I think one should only rate lessons where the genre is of personal interest.

ok the rate icon is back up again - hopefully clicking it should work better for those who had problems!

Posted by: fkalich May 14 2009, 05:34 PM

fixed first issue. Still clips the text off in Firefox (see picture above). At least for me it does, every time. Does not do it in IE.

edit: Actually it is off and on. On Merciful Fate it shows up correctly. On world set on fire it is clipped. I tried this on serveral, it is consistently either good or bad, depending on the lesson. Just compare Merciful Fate and World set on Fire, and see what is different, that makes them behave inconsistently in Firefox.

Posted by: fkalich May 14 2009, 07:02 PM

I checked a bigger machine, don't have the problem, I just have it on my old laptop. So you can ignore me, probably a problem dealing perhaps with small screens, or older laptops.

Posted by: Canis May 14 2009, 07:10 PM

Great addition! Thanks a lot, Kris & team =)

I like the "Times Viewed" feature. It shows how popular GMC actually is ^^

Posted by: AlexLion May 14 2009, 07:15 PM

Extreme Neo - Classical is most viewed biggrin.gif (well I guess)

There was unfortunately a bug with the voting system which only allowed one vote per lesson dry.gif this has been fixed now! (But unfortunately your old vote is lost unless you were the first who voted - sorry about this)
