GMC Forum _ THEORY _ Confused About Ii-v-i

Posted by: Wyverex Oct 20 2016, 08:37 PM

As I was browsing through some of the lessons here, I stumbled over this one:
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guitar/jazz-notes-5-ii-v-i-progression-licks/

It's obviously about II-V-I progressions. The theory behind that is clear to me. At least I thought that. What confused me about this particular lesson is the progression used. Let's just take the first 6 chords:

Dm7 G7 CM7 Cm7 G7 BbM7

Why is the second G7 there? When modulating into the key of Bb, the new V chord would be F7 and not G7. Since there was no mention of that in the lesson (at least not in a way I got it) or the comments, I guess I haven't understood something crucial about II-V-I progressions after all. Can someone please shed some light on this? smile.gif

It's a mistake in the notation/transcription.
The video is correct though.

From the lesson in question:

The Chord progression for this lesson is:

Dm7 G7 C7M Cm7 G7 Bb7M Bbm7 F7 Ab7M

Ab7M Db7 Gb7M F#m7 B7 E7M Em7 A7 D7M

The two chords in bold in the first line should be F7 and Eb7 respectively.
The rest is correct.
