When recording I am getting some distortion in my headphones mostly from my G string or if I am doing a lot of heavy strumming.

I do not hear this when I play though my amp. I am not peaking on any inputs to my M-Audio unit.

The headphones still sound great when playing the backing tracks.

Any thoughts?

I did check my neck and the strings are not fretting out.

It seems like a specific frequency...SONY MDR-7506 Professional is what I am using and they are about 5+ years old.
