GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Versatile Humbuckers

Posted by: bart m Sep 6 2007, 04:25 AM

I'm lookin' to buy some new humbuckers for my Washburn W164dl. i like to get heavy, but when playing live, i play a lot of different styles....led zepp, santana, grateful dead, allman brothers, al green, red hot chili peppers, talking heads etc...so i need something that is really versatile. my effects unit is a POD XT live...I can get a lot of sounds from it. oh, i would also like something that will allow me to play with a very clean tone if needed....basically the best of both worlds.

I'm going to gove you the standard answer (which I support) - DiMarzio Evolution

I'm equipping a guitar with DiMarzio Breed, only got the neck pu so far and can really recommend that too, a set of Breed.

Im the Seymour Duncan guy on gmc tongue.gif
I would like to know how your guitar is set up,is it H/S/S H/H OR H/S/H .Ofcourse i mean H=Humbucker and S=single coil.I would go with a distortion at bridge and a jazz model at neck to have a perfect balance if using two humbucker's.You can check this stuff out at www.seymourduncan.com great site.

I like the duncan sh-5 in the bridge and a paf joe dimarzio in the neck. biggrin.gif Duncans are pretty sweet.

just reading through the Duncan specs, i would probably go with the Duncan Customâ„¢ SH-5 in the bridge and the '59 model SH-1(or the Satch P.A.F. Dimarzio) for the neck....that looks like it is an extremely versatile combination.
