Hello

As earlier mentioned I have a POD X3.
What I want to do is, I want to record when I play over a GMC backing track. These tracks cant be downloaded.


When I have the POD plugged into my monitors, or headphones, and I plugg it into the computer, I can hear BOTH Pod guitar sound, and sound from computer. So for example If i go onto youtube and put on a song, I can hear it through the monitors.

So I can play a backingtrack, and get it to sounds out through the monitors + get my guitar sound out of it.

Shouldnt it be possible to record myself with quicktime on PC, using webcam as video, and POD as audio, and record both backing track and guitar sound?

And if not how will I do? As I said i cant download the BT

I'm sure someone will jump in to help you with pod and reaper, coz i dont use either.
But the procedure is :

1. Start recording your video via your webcam
2. Launch your DAW and record your audio take (while your webcam is still recording your video)
3. After you finish playing, stop video and audio recording.
4. Export audio from your daw.
5. Open up a video editor and sync your video and audio take.
6. Upload to utube

Backing tracks are downloadable mate Try to find the icon to the right of the backing track. Let us know if you found it.


When you open Reaper:

1. Import backing track
2. Open another track
3. Check the inputs on that track (you should feed the track with the sound from POD)
4. Arm for record, and record
5. Render everything together

Hmm I dont know these terms really, complete beginner in recording. Explain a bit more about every step please, exactly what to do in right order etc. Explain from starting to video record to merging the audio and video.

Record the video with your phone/webcam/camcorder.
To record the audio in reaper you should just drag the backing track into reaper. Then click Ctrl+T on you keyboard and toggle "ar" on the track wich will apear. Then press Ctrl+R and start playing. Then press File->Render..., select the folder and format you want and press render.
To mix audio with video you should havr a video editor. I use Sony Vegas. Just drag the video and audio into the editor, sync them and render or export.

I think the issue is the recording source? I have the same problem as such and would like to know the best option myself.

Under Control Panel > Sound > Select the Recording Tab

With the Pod attached and drivers installed you should find a new source appear for that - select it and make sure it's checked as "default". Note when you remove the connection to the Pod, it should default automatically back to it's previous normal microphone one (so you don't need to worry if you have multiple sources for recording).

Using just about any recording software, will now record from that device (but only that device). You might be able to heard more, but it won't mix Windows sounds + Pod sounds, etc.

The low quality / bad way is to record everything via the microphone instead.

Or some software allows you to drag additional tracks to mix in - you could add the backing track in later?

Or most Pod devices have a CD/MP3 Input or other input line into them - it could be possible to feed the music as a separate source into the Pod, if you have the cables?

I'm new with Reaper, myself, but hopefully the following steps will help you.

1. Start with a new project.
2. Ctrl+P to pull up Preferences.
3. Under Audio Section, Select Device
4. Be sure your Input device is set to what you desire.
5. Apply changes.
6. Ctrl+T to insert a new track.
7. Press the "ar" (red button) to arm the track for recording.
8. You can change where it says "Left" to Stereo Left/Right.
9. You may now press the circle record red button and begin recording.

While doing this, or before this I should have started a web cam recording session too?
Backing track also plays a while before I start play, hope that not a problem, I can hear the track right?

This depends on what you want to do. Are you using the webcam to only record video? If so, yes, it would be convenient to have the cam going already (you can edit the video down in Movie Maker or whatever you have to edit videos). Then you can hit the record button in Reaper. You can have the backing track already in Reaper (drag and drop) and the track will play while you record.

Yes, like Fireball described, it would be good to start recording the video first, and then play the backing/record your guitar.

Try to put couple of pre-count clicks before the video, so you know where you need to start.
