Not sure, I thought that before, but I now believe big shows put more pressure in general. More energy can be transferred to musicians. The difference is, on big shows you don't have direct contact with the audience, and on smaller shows you can see them nearby, and catch their views and moves better. But I wouldn't say that's pressure. If there is pressure, it's something personal, or depending on the type of audience or situation IMO.

Tricky question. Depends really about the type of the show. If its a competition then there is LOTS of pressure. If its just a regular show big crowd sounds much more exciting fun. Also musicians are separated a lot from audience on big stage - so if the onstage sound is good - then there is no pressure at all. Though if you add TV recording for some show or something - now there is lots of pressure

I feel the same way. The smaller venues, where you can see everyones face staring back at you always feel like your under the microscope. In a medium or large venue, you usually can't see past the stage lights and the audience is more of a general presence. I like both honestly

But yeah, smaller clubs always feel like a bit more pressure to me. But that can make you play even better.

that's true, it depends on the situation really...when no one cares there's no pressure at all

but when it's highly technical in which everyone expects you to play every note perfectly then it's different

I would go with big crowds and bigger venues being scarier.. because chances are you've got somewhere in music and the stakes are higher, hehe. However, there might be more space to sit and relax before going on stage.

But playing smaller venues, you've got nowhere to go and chill, so you've gotta hang around feeling nervous, looking around and having to answer people for the 100th time with 'I dunno, sometime soon..' when they keep asking you what time you're going on !!!

That's an interesting point, I don't like those questions that much either
