So ive been fan of Andy Timmon, Greg Howe, Guthrie Govanish tone lately and now i also fall in love jose mena tone on his phrasing lesson, the problem my dis pedal is a metal muff and its way to agressive to give the smoth tone i want.
i got some money for christmas so any advice on a dis pedal that give me all from jose almost clean to a more dirty sound

ps. dont care about price laugh.gif

oh my favorite tone of all time is Thomas blug

Overdrive your marshall clean channel with a Tubescreamer might be an Idea, but try it out first.

How bout the overdrive from DSL401 mate? Is that not good or what? If you want smooth distortion, you can try out the Marshall Guvnor for example, it's a nice smooth pedal, and I think it will go along nicely with amp. Also, check out some boosters for the DSL, maybe tubescreamer.

The tone of the tube amp is in tubes. Perhaps it would be cool to get some good preamp tubes for it mate, like Mullard or JJ ones. This will get rid of the amp "blanket". Marshalls can really sound muddy with bad tubes, or stock ones.

Check out Guv'nor, Boss SD1, and Tubescreamer mate, those are some good pedals that may like you. Also when in the store, be sure to compare it to lots of different pedals, so you get the proper impression on what you like the most.

Well Andy Timmons uses a BB preamp which is a really nice OD. Tubescreamers are nice but I don't find them particularly smooth. I think the BB preamp or the Fulltone OCD would be nice additions on a clean channel or as boosts to your OD channel. If your OD is not that great you can always run with only slight gain and then boost it with a pedal. For Jose Mena's tone, he is using a high amp model, the Soldano, but only has minimal gain on it. Check out the OD pedals at proguitarshop.com, they have a lot of nice middle level to boutique overdrives with lots of videos showcasing them through a clean channel on a nice tube amp. I'm not that keen on the Marshall Guv'nor, I own one and find it a bit lacking and it's not true bypass, I find it sounds kind of solid statish, I guess it depends on what amp you run it through, I'm running it through a fender tube amp.
