Do you guys think they make that much of a difference? Anybody have non F-spaced pickups in a FR equipped guitar and what are your thoughts on the output?

The difference is 2mm (I think), which to me seems to be quite minimal but who knows, may make all the difference in the world... rolleyes.gif

Anyways, wanted to get some input from the great minds of GMC.. smile.gif

Cheers!
Steve

i do, i am using a PAF pro non F spaced on my ibanez, i know that for ibanez, F spaced doesnt matter too much, but F spaced was actually designed for fender guitars(hence the F in F spaced), so i dont know about those.

i even think my blues bucker in the neck of my ibby isnt fspaced, but i can safely say that i have my dream tone and awesome sustain with this combo

Thanks for the input Marc. smile.gif I'm sure a lot of people are getting good tone with standard pole pickups in a floating bridge guitars, glad to hear you are happy with yours. I'm looking at different p'up combination's for an older guitar I have so want to be sure I don't install a set of standards to only find they are tone suckers..

Current combination's I'm looking at are...

Dimarzio; Evolution (B ) Tone Zone (N)

Kent Armstrong; Ultra Distortion (B ) PAF (N)

Stan Hinesley; Scorpion (B ) Zen (N)

Also looking at some Bill Lawrence models too.

Really want the Hinesley's but they are on the upper end of the price range but some of the best! smile.gif

Standard Spacing is 50 millimeters while F-Spacing is 53 millimeters (F is for Floyd Rose, not Fender)

It is possible to use standard spacing on floyd guitars and vice-versa but it's not ideal as the pole pieces aren't directly below the strings which MIGHT cause some problems on some playing situations like extreme bendings or so...

Which guitar is getting new pickups and what do you want to play with them?

-also you might want to look at Bareknuckle Pickups if you go for handwound custom pickups

Going in an older Jackson DXMG with an Original Floyd. Looking for a big fat bluesy neck tone to all out mayhem from the bridge. My DK2 has the 81/85 combo (had the 18v mod which I don't like) so has since been removed.

I've looked at the Bareknuckle's and have heard some great things about them, but damn there expensive.

Id go with that Evo/Tone Zone combo,

you can get really great tones that arent over powering at all

so many artists use that combo and they are relatively less expensive than the others you mentioned

Actually, it's for both. Heritated initially from Fender size but they found it suitable to give the F double meaning. smile.gif

On a similar topic, I was looking at hard tail strat bridges yesterday. Some of them have a slightly wider string spacing than others. Does that affect much besides playability?

These are the ones I was looking at:

Fender #1

Fender #2

Callaham *

The first fender one says "humbucker spacing". What is that supposed to mean?

[edit] * FYI, the callaham can be found about halfway down the page.

IMHO if you want to go for dimarzio in your Jackson I would go for a Paf Pro in the Neck if you want a bluesy tone, the Tone Zone is too dark sounding and powerfull for that stuff, it's more of a shred pickup...

If you consider Duncans then go for a Sh-5 in the Bridge and a Sh-1 in the Neck (that's the combination in Emir's guitar I think). If you want more metal then take an SH-6 for the bridge and an Sh-1 Bridge version for the neck (to compensate the volume with the bridge output)

I went all out on Bareknuckles because the pound to Euro ratio was great and I got three pairs for three guitars and they absolutely blow me away with sound and built quality...

Not the SH-5

The TB-5

I just made this mistake. F spacing with duncan is called the Trembucker. I bought a SH-5 only to rip the damn thing out and wait for a TB-5 to arrive.....

I love the pickup though!

I have the TB-5 and the SH-2n Jazz

Yeah ofcourse you're right Jer, Trembuckers. In fact make sure that you order your pickups in your spacing (if possible) and with short mounting legs (because the long ones don't fit under a Floyd Rose guitar like in Jer's case)

dimarzio blues bucker is also a great neck pick up, i have one in my neck and its awesome...the way it works is that it has one of the coils at full power, and the other very very very very low so its like having a single coil bit a little more humbucker in it to take out the noise

Thanks ZW, I'll look into the PAF Pro as well, looks to be similar to the KA PAF (output wise) KA has Alnico and Ceramic versions of this p/up. I have considered some SD combo's but who knows, there's a sea of choices out there. laugh.gif The Jackson that the new p/up's will go in is Basswood and not Alder just so you guys know, and the trem is a MIG OFR. smile.gif

Thaks again for the help you guys!
