I was thinking to ask you what exactly do you know about scales/ intervals/ arpeggios/ chords so far, so I should know better where and what to start with

Hello

Scales are series of notes. intervals between notes decide what the scale sounds like. i think arpeggios are when you play one note at a time in a chord.. ? i have one question, how you decide the name of chords, for example c9, what does 9 mean?
I dont know much but i am learning now dorian mode, ioninan mode, pentatonic minor and major.
Also, pentatonic minor add 6, what does add 6 mean?

Hey mate

Let's take things easy and in turns:

We have the structure of the major scale - C major for instance, ok?

C D E F G A B C and we give each note a number from 1 to 8

Now, in order to make a chord we add intervals to the root and play them simultaneously

C9 would be C E G Bb D and it's formula -> 1 3 5 b7 9 (it is a dominant 9th chord and we know that from the notation - it only has the 9th and no other signs) this means it's dominant.

First of all you must understand the basic structure of a triad - root, third, fifth - 1, 3 , 5 in the case of a major chord and 1, b3 (flat third or minor third), 5 in the case of a minor chord. The other intervals are being added and provide various qualities to the chord.

For instance, C maj = C E G and C minor = C Eb G

Here is your first assignment Please write down the formulas of the D major, E major, F major, A major, B major G major as above and then their minor versions. Deal?

Well, sort of You see, when we deal with the major chords, we won't use the note names involving flats, but the ones involving sharps. Can you please re-write the major chords using sharps? The minor ones are good like this oh and please remove that G from the A major chord ... unless of course, you want it to be a dominant 7 chord

This is correct! Now, can you please do the same for Bb, Eb, Ab, Db and then for F#, G#, A#, C# ? And I also wanted to ask if you can record yourself, as the next step will be a practical task

Yes i can record something. As soon as possible. I don't have proper equipment so the sound will be bad. Sorry.

Well, regardless of how bad it will be, I'd still be curious to hear you play Now for the practical aspect, we will tackle these lessons here, which are dealing with the exact things we have talked about till now and we'll start with this one below. It deals with triads in the context of a major scale, by harmonizing it. Harmonizing means building a different chord out of each scale degree, using only notes belonging to that scale
