Hello all! I come to you now with my latest song, Drift Of Light. Once this tune gets into it, its a straight up headbanging tune with a more modern touch to it. Drum sound has been redone, although I bought new Drum Software Im still waiting for it to arrive. Its the first song I wrote specifically for vocal parts for myself and Lola, So I hope you enjoy this one. Please let me know what you think, any suggestions and/or improvements! smile.gif

Lyrically the song is about two people. One, a man who accidentally awakens from cryogenic sleep inside a rundown space ship that could be from the movie Aliens, and has discovered something horrible is happening outside. And the other, a female observer (Or at least something with a feminine voice) who is watching all this play out in secret. The first verses are "her" observing the "protagonist" awakening from the cryogenic sleep.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Drift of light
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

The Observer
"Born into an amnesiac state
Awakened by the sharpest pain
Tearful eyes see nothing around
Attentive ears hear violence beyond

Ripping needles from his flesh
Drowning in a river of blood
Running through a tunnel of white
Stumbling into a darkness"

The Protagonist
I've awakened in the midst of rebirth
No sky, no sun, no land, nor sea
Steel darkness envelopes my sight
Crushing pains rack my body

Silent genetics running my mind
Programmed code pounding my skull
A damp and dark atmosphere
Lost somewhere in time and space

The Observer
Floating nowhere in the void
Drifting to uncertain fates
The sky beckons us to see
It's final days of grace

The Protagonist
Running to some unseen horror
Heading down a path I don't know
Cybernetic visions compell
My eyes to see the sun

Venus is burned down to the core
Mercury engulfed wholly in flames
The surface of Earth is scorched away
Destroyed by the final breath of sol

The Observer
Floating nowhere in the void
Drifting to uncertain fates
The sky beckons us to see
It's final days of grace

The Observer + The Protagonist
Churning maelstrom in the sky
Shattered lands seen from space
Our mother ignites her soul
Her last breath is exhaled

The Protagonist
No sky
No land
No sea
No sun

Sol's final breath expelled
As the raging winds of hell

No hope
No home
Nowhere
To run

The sky fades from white
To a desolate shade of grey

I think it's very good - lyrically and musically.

I interpret the female as the ship itself, lonely after years floating silently in space watching the solar system die, and deciding to wake the traveller to share in her growing madness and despair.

All I can say is that I'm listening to this on loop for the past 1 hour. It's bloody good. VERY VERY well done !! Your vocals get a bit lost in the mix at times, I wish they were a bit more upfront (just a little bit). But maybe that's the idea. Oh, and Lola's back and she's still not real laugh.gif

Can you please teach me how to produce such a quality sound? smile.gif .. I'll pm ya about it?

I won't say you are right about the voice, But I will say you are very intuitive on the issue smile.gif

I was wondering myself if the vocals were a bit low in the mix at times, I do this all the time. I just don't realize 'till someone else mentions it though.

And yes, Lola is still not real, Sorry bout that laugh.gif

New drums make it sound a lot better. You can see it at my myspace if youd like to hear it.

Very nice. The first part reminded me of old Uriah Heep style which I really like. Later stuff is obviously a different story smile.gif
