QUESTION: WHAT DO YOU THINK? CONTENDER OR PURE NOSTALGIA?

EVH Guitars are well known for their association with EVH himself and the standard shape we have come to expect from the EVH line is the same one that EVH used for many years up to his passing. However, before that shape, before EVH guitars, Eddie was associated with a relatively small builder called KRAMER GUITARS. KRAMER adopted the EVH Frankenstrat design to inform their late 80s design choices and the Single Humbucker, Hockey Stick Neck, Super Strat became wildly popular. I had one of these guitars and i can tell you they were wads of fun.

Well, they are making a comeback. At least in spirit. Sure, kramer is still making hockey stick neck super strats. Now, so is EVH. The "5150" line of guitars pays visual homage to that same design. They bring things forward with the addition of a KILL SWITCH and a DROP TUNA which drops the E down to D for open D tuning. These have been available for several months but I have yet to see one in a music store for some reason.

FEATURES:

*Graphite Reinforced Quarter Sawn Neck
*C Shape Neck Profile
*Hockey Stick Head stock
*12-16' Compound Radius
*22 Jumbo Frets
*Custom Alnico 2 Pickups
*Pickup Kill Switch
*D Tuna Drop Tuner
*Floyd Rose Double Locking Trem

This guitar is available in a variety of finishes and woods. Pricing is just under $1,000 which places these above "budget" and around "mid range" in terms of pricing. The price represents a good value imho given the features. These look to be very solid giutars that would be a great starter instrument and a fine addition to any collection.
