i was looking up a velvet revolver tab. i clicked on one and it was the same exact tab as our gmc velvet revolver lessons by gabe. so someone on here must of copied the tab and put it on another website. which by i know is not allowed.

Don´t worry nick it´s just the song "she builds machines.."

hm no, because before i became a member i used to read the tabs shown on the video segments, so, that means the tab can be viewed by anyone.

Should is not the issue, doing so is grounds for law suit and financial damages. If this is the case, I expect that Kris will want to know, and may want to contact that site and see if they will remove it.

I would not say reading it is illegal, although downloading it, making a permanent copy would be. Certainly publishing it on a site would be.

Posted by: Asphyxia Feeling Sep 12 2007, 10:09 AM

dang dude you're totally right somebody STABBED GMC IN THE BACK!

...

i kid, of course. not trying to start a fuss. however, i think it's wrong to take some of GMC's material and publish it as your own work on another website. bad bad BAD!

Posted by: Nick325 Sep 12 2007, 10:10 AM

i dont want gmc to turn into a destroyed site that ppl take from and post on youtube and stuff sad.gif

Posted by: Layzer Sep 12 2007, 10:15 AM

I know Kris will inform UG seeing as he does content for them now and im sure they will gladly remove it if is a violation of copyright

Well spotted Nick - I have sent Kris a PM, lets see what happens next.

Posted by: Nick325 Sep 12 2007, 10:30 AM

i was looking in other bands tabs for other in style of lessons but i didnt find any. we should all look out for this to keep gmc safe.

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Sep 13 2007, 09:39 AM

Hello guys! It's true. This tab isn't of the song She Builds Quick Machine, they copied my lesson's tab. I composed this lesson exclusively for GMC.

Thanks for notifying me. I'll talk with Kris about it.

Gabriel.-

Thats weird someone would do that. Its pretty childish if you ask me.

Who ever did it should be IMO kicked from GMC. Because thats pretty low.

low indeed. I wonder what is going to happen, but this could be done by non-members right? like i said, you can still view the tab in each video.

Before I was a member, I could only view pieces of tabs in the select video clips that it aloud me to see. I never was able to see the entire tab to a song. So, I think that there's an actual member of the sight jacking the tabs mad.gif

Good job spotting that Nick.

yeah, but what if he/she copied the tab from every video and made it as one? (like the one only for members, which displays the entire tab)

But as a non-member, you cant view all of the videos (only the ones in green). That means that a member had to have done it.

You can still view the tabs though... try viewing a non green video without signing in and it should show you the tabs.

Maybe he even just tabbed it himself... it cant be that hard if you have abit of patience.

thats right. Thats what i was trying to say.

Posted by: Asphyxia Feeling Sep 13 2007, 12:35 PM

i think it's pretty obvious it was a member. it's an exact copy paste of the full tab.

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Sep 13 2007, 08:41 PM

This is sad - let's hope it doesn't happen again. mellow.gif

To help getting rid of it you can use the "report bad tab" feature at the bottom of the page.

If member did it,well....

Posted by: rokchik Sep 13 2007, 09:29 PM

It would be a very big disappointment if someone here has done this.

Posted by: muris Sep 13 2007, 09:32 PM

i would think U-G can track uploads through IP addresses. Calling all Sleuths!!

Posted by: Hemlok Sep 13 2007, 10:24 PM

Terrible news. sad.gif Whoever is responsible for this should be ashamed, and have their guitar smashed over their head. Yeah surely this person can be tracked down.

Posted by: Fsgdjv Sep 14 2007, 03:22 AM

I'm not saying I support the one who did this, but I hope all you who think it's so horrible buy all your tabs or tab out everything yourselves! Because "regular" songs are just as copyrighted as this is. Even though, you might think like I do, and think it's bad because gmc isn't a million dollar industry, and then I agree laugh.gif

Posted by: Eat-Sleep-andJam Sep 14 2007, 04:58 AM

Yeah this is just terrible dry.gif well im sure the people of Ug could track the person who posted its name and find who it is and let Kris handle the matter ... smile.gif

yeah, maybe UG can track the person and find out who she/he is, but once the IP is tracked, how are we going to know who she/he is?

there is a difference between taking copyrighted material, copying it, and publishing it somewhere else with your name on it and taking music you love and trying to tab it out yourself / for others to enjoy / comment on. if you ask any actual MUSICIAN (not the multi-million dollar record labels / music association) i think they really wouldn't mind somebody trying to tab out their work. in fact, i think they'd like it. it helps spread their songs to other guitarists!

Posted by: jeff Sep 14 2007, 06:51 AM

Shame on whoever did this! mad.gif . The GMC instructors work hard on their material and provide us with excellent lessons and teach us all a lot of good things and make this a great community. Imagine what it is like for them to see someone steal their stuff and post it to another site that they didn't even know about. If you want someone to know about the lessons then post a link to GMC and they can get the lessons just like all of us who pay for and support this site.

Posted by: The Uncreator Sep 14 2007, 06:58 AM

Lets just pray this doesnt happen again.

Posted by: NightFlight Sep 14 2007, 08:25 AM

There's a special place in hell reserved for people that do things like this. Hopefully there's a way to identify the source of that posting so Kris can deal with this appropriately.

Gabriel, please don't let this discourage you. There may be one scumbag out there, but there are hundreds of us here that sincerely appreciate, respect, and support your outstanding instructional work.

Posted by: Robin Sep 14 2007, 08:25 AM

Hmm, does it say anywhere on GMC that it is not allowed to steal tabs and such from GMC? If not, that would have been a good idea I think.

+1. Also there is an issue of plagiarism - in this case whoever it is was presumably tries to pass the tab off as being their own work. In the case of tabbing a recorded song the majority of/all people know that the tabber didn't write the original piece. I can only surmise that whoever did it believes that they will gain kudos/respect from people on UGC who think that the piece was actually written by them. So if that's the case it's down to ego. Sad really.

Cheers,
Tony

ps I try to tab stuff songs I want to learn for no other reason then I learn it better then reading someone else's tab. But it's horses for courses.

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Sep 14 2007, 09:23 PM

Depending on how much trace this person left behind - it is possible to track.

We all know what happens if the gmc material becomes available for free. Let's hope this is an isolated case.

Posted by: muris Sep 14 2007, 09:33 PM

I hope this thread will stop same activities in the future tho.

Kris, perhaps only making one tab (the green colored, free one) visible to non-members would eliminate this from happening? It still gives the curious guitarist a pretty good idea of what it's like to be a member (ability to see all tabs), but removes the chance of someone stealing full tabs.
