You can lend me a bass MIDI file, perhaps I can help. I use Spectrasonics Trilian.
Have you use any compression in mixing/mastering? -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE

Wow so many good answers here!!! I have a lot to learn!
In response to fireball, is this the sounds your looking for?? http://soundcloud.com/tylerteeple/confessions-can-wait-1 If so, try: -Quad tracking your guitars, 2 different tones double tracked panned 100% left and right (dont go heavy on the distortion for this though) try using a bright fizzy style tone coupled with a dry, percussive tone (5150 and Dual rec patches maybe?) -A very booming but not distorted bass track -Try scooping the mids on a couple tracks (try not to post -eq your guitar if possible) -Pick hard and get some good takes!! This probably isnt a very good way of recording...but it works for me hah. Good luck -------------------- My Website

Thanks for the offer, Ivan. I'll let you know. I do have some compression (more like a crap-load) on the guitars. If those are yur compresion setings either for guitar or on the 2 bus maybe look at them again -------------------- Get your music professionally mastered by anl AES registered Mastering Engineer. The thing is: compression on guitars is not really needed that much in the mixing process, because with hi gain settings, they usually lack dynamics in the first place. If you do want to use compression, use it before the amp to make all the notes/riffs pop out right, and boost your drive a bit.
As for doubling guitar tracks, try recording one very light crunch take to increase dynamics of the riffs. Almost like you are recording only pick hitting on the strings, so you can blend it with original guitar track. This can make it more dynamic. As for the mastering, Tony made some great articles on the subject. Critical listening, EQing, using combination of compressors are some of the important things. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE
