Hey Gabe

-First off, Enjoying your lessons, keep it up

I wanted to ask how you achieved effects, in the style of JP. And eventually how I could achieve sound/effect like them easiest ? EQ, Pedals etc. ?

My amp is not that versatile i've only got normal EQ on it with Bass, Mid, Treble, vol. So I might be forced to achieve this through some extern effect device.

Hi! I used my Line 6 POD X3 live for this lesson. I chose one of the most metal amps and set it with a lot of gain (9) and treb (7) to make the artificial harmonics sound like a scream.
If your amp doesn't have enough gain to play this type of metal stuff you should add a pedal like the Boss Metal Zone or similars. I also have a pedal called Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Visual Sound) that sounds very good for this style.
There are a lot of metal pedal out there... the secret is to set them with a lot of distortion and with the perfect amount of treble.

I did consider the MT-2 but theres many people saying it's no good.

But I'll try it out in the shop today/tomorrow

That's true. People says It's isn't the best metal pedal but I don't know too much metal pedals. I think that the best way to get a ood distortion is using a head amp like Messa Bogie, Soldano, Marshall, Peavey, etc. I don't use pedals as a main distortion when I play live. But when I record demos and practice at home I use POD or Guitar Rig. Check the gear reviews at GMC, there are a lot of pedals reviewed there.

I LOVE the Metal Zone pedal. I've been a Priest fan for years. Definitely check out the MT-2.

Using any modeling devices, dial in the Marshall JC800 sound. That'll get you there too. Just dont back the mids all the way off.

Using a Digitech GSP-1101 and making a Priest preset got me the tone I'm doing here on this cover of Desert Plains. (mine is the guitar on the left) Check it out. I'd imagine you could get that on any of the digitech modelers. And they start under $100.

Great to know. I have used the JCM 800 in some recording and I really like its distortion.
