GMC Forum _ Bands and Guitarists _ Latest Albums You've Bought

Posted by: steve25 Dec 3 2007, 11:41 PM

So i'm thinking i should get into some more bands. So who's bought some good new albums lately, what did you think of it and what style? Today i bought Amon Amarth - With oden on our side and i have to say it's a very good album pretty impressive. I guess i'd have to say my favourite style is probably melodic death metal but since joining here i've got into a hell of a lot more stuff. So what are your current favourites?

Ah cool quality. Yeah tried some tracks off the new Engel album but wasn't really overly pleased with it. Iron Maidens a matter of life and death is definitely awesome though. I have to admit i'm pretty hard to please when it comes to music, hence why i want to get into more bands because i'm not into as many a some people.

Oh i also tried Municipal Waste - the art of partying recently, got it lent to me. I highly recommend that you avoid it lol.

My latest "new" album was A Matter of Life and Death by Iron Maiden, and it's pretty good! It's a bit different to their older stuff like number of the beast, but it's still a great album.

The most recent cd I've bought however is John Coltrane's A Love Supreme which is just superb.

Last three -

Allan Holdsworth 'Against the clock' (compilation - sort of silly as I've got all the tracks but just not on a single cd.)

John Coltrane - Lush life - remastered edition

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss - Raising Sand - present for my wife.

Cheers,
Tony

Nothing in December yet. Here's what I bought in November. Reverse order (most recent first)

A New Kind of Heroine by http://www.ottosdaughter.com
Come On! by http://www.fluffystarr.com
Jeff by Jeff Beck (actually, it was a gift)
Love Letters from the Electric Chair by http://www.myspace.com/izzycox
The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust! by http://niggytardust.com/

There's guitar in all of them...some more than others, obviously. All of them can be sampled online somewhere before buying, which is how I prefer to buy music these days.

Otto's Daughter, I've mentioned before as the folks that I won my first guitar from that started me playing. They're an industrial metal act.

Fluffy Starr's some kind of odd combination of bubblegum silliness and synthpop industrial. Ok. I don't know how to describe it. It's fun though.

Jeff Beck. Almost 'nuff said. I never heard this album before and was surprised at how modern it is for a guy that's been around for 40 years.

I love Izzy Cox's stuff. I think she calls it "voodoobilly jazz". It's kind of an odd 40's/50's vibe through modern frank, dark themes.

Saul Williams..A lot of people have heard of this album already. This is the one that Trent Reznor produced and they're putting out online for $5 at whatever bitrate you want, or for free at 190k mp3. I'm not big on hiphop, but this one's different. It's not the expected mashup of industrial and rap either...Trent's an interesting producer. Worth a listen, esepcially being mostly free.
