Hi guyz, what's the best tube amp for around 650/700 pounds?

i asked a while a go when i had only 300 pounds and got told the peavey valve king, but now ive saved up some more and hope to find a better one for 700 pounds..

It has to be an all round great amp, with a nice clean tone, but also a nice warm distortion tone,
a few months after i buy it, i will be buying a few individual stomps aswell.

thanks, hope yous can help..

Over here in the US for that price range you could get into.

Peavey 6505 Standard and + versions, Peavey JSX, Egnater Renegade.

I bought the Egnater, just because of the cleans were very warm, it reminds me of a tweed amp. But the down fall for me is the distortion since it only hits till around say a AC/DC sound for rock. But it's was a tad cheaper than the rest so I picked up a stomp box for distortion and it sounds amazing.

Yeah, where will you be playing and what?

I don't think your suggested 6505 fits any of the above.

Since you're in the UK you'll find the better bang for buck in Orange or Marshall.
Though I think the H&K Switchblade is great sounding, you could pick up a used one for the budget
An Orange Thunder 30 maybe? That's from my own preferences, what I'd like (I have the Switchblade since -07, still like it). Not knowing more than your budget it's difficult to suggest anything that's suitable to yourself.

The Valveking is still pretty allround and still a good choise.

I've used the Peavey 6505 and it's great for metal... I don't think that you'll find a warm distortion with it and neither with a Marshall... I would try some others like Orange or Bogner.

I played through Peavey 6505+ several times, and it's great for metal as Gab said, but it's lacking everything else. Cleans are barely clean, and not really good, and overdrive is awesome and tight, but again, best suited for metal (because amp has natural midrange drop)

I think you should go for the ValveKing, buy a good cab with it, and for the rest of the money get some good pedals. They don't come cheap. Valveking is a good all-around amp, you won't make a mistake.

I can vouch for the Valveking, its a great amp that can cover many genres. If you decide on getting the head, try to find a Marshall 1960 cab to go with it. One with either the Celestion G12-T75's or Vintage 30's. The stock Valveking speakers don't let the true sound of the amp come out.

That Fender Twin won't have the amount of gain the Valveking has, so thats something you should keep in mind.

After running combos from peavey, vox, and a 2x12 Marshall MC cab on a cheap mg head. I have to agree with the 1960s cab, I love mine to death, it sounds great turned down and all the way to 11!

It has lovely (one of the best) clean sounds, and one of the most famous reverb effects, but it's heavy as HELL, and it is very loud, you won't get proper distortion out of it.

I have the Valveking 212 combo, great amp, incredibly loud! rolleyes.gif

I`m not overly impressed with higher gain sounds straight out of the amp though, but then I`m looking for a metal sound, if thats what your after from the amp you wont get it from a Valveking without a booster pedal in front of it, thats my opinion, we all have our presonal preference for tone and I cant achieve what I`m looking straight from the amp, I`ve ended up just using the clean channel with the usual array of distortion pedal and lead boosters in front of it smile.gif

I`d agree with an earlier suggestion (and kind of wish I`d explored them myself more at the time mad.gif ) take a look at some of the Blackstar gear

Im curious, how do people rate blackstar as they re quite new on the scene. Are they quite versatile?
Also how do they fair for tone for metal?
