GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Setting It Up!

So I had my Ibanez guitar for about 10 years and never paid to have it setup. I figured hey its brand new its gotta be setup correctly right?

So after many years of me changing strings, trying to set it up myselfit has gotten all out of whack. I found this guy near me that wrote this book.

http://www.amazon.com/High-Performance-Marshall-Handbook-Amplifier/dp/093322480X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1235496932&sr=8-1

Here is his site.

I tried to set thisup myself but it continued to get worse.

I tell you what, its an amazing difference this guitar plays when a proffesional sets it up. I just bought a brand new Schecter Hellraiser and after I got my Ibanez back from him and felt how it played I immediately made another appointment to have my Schecter setup.

Here's what he did...
Intonation, Tuning using full spectrum tuner with ociliscope. Adjusted the neck, reshim if needed, pickup height, truss rod adjustment, center strings on the neck, balance the tremolo, new strings, check circuitry and solder points, clean pots, tighten tuning pegs and fretboad wax and clean.

$75

I figure I give this guy a plug on this site. he really setup my axe sweet!

Moral of the story...
Setup your guitar correctly! smile.gif LOL!

Totally agree opeth. I view an regular set up by a luthier like having my car annually serviced. Well worth the money smile.gif .

I totally agree on this one as well.

I do have to disagree about your second sentence tho mate - the guitar is rarely just right for playing out of the box. Guitar usually needs a proper setup just after it's bought, cause they rarely do a proper setup at the factory, and when they do, the guitar will most likely change in shape during transport and standing in the store.

Especially when your axe arrives in a trapezoid cardboard box left on your doorstep for half a day in January - like my first (cheap) guitar... dry.gif
