GMC Forum _ Bands and Guitarists _ Stage Monitoring And Drum Tracks

Hi

Has any of you guys that are in a band, managed to come up with a cool solution for playing drum fills/loops etc, with a click track for the drummer to monitor. Ideally it would be the drummer who controlled the starting and stopping of the backing track,as well as being able to control the volume at which the loops rejoin the live sound.

Basically we are a Genesis tribute band and we need the best way to create and monitor the backing tracks on some of the numbers.

Any help will be appreciated.

I know there are devices that can play stereo tracks AND also send the metronome to the drummer which is the pro solution, but I have been wondering this myself,

The cheap solution is to render your tracks to one side AND THE METRONOME TO THE OTHER,

This way, out of the iPod or whatever you can send L - R and choose where do you want each signal to go.

Usually the best solution is to use a multi-track mixer/recorder, so you can use 2 or more tracks for the FOH while the drummer is receiving the metronome track.
If you don't need stereo backing tracks, the cheapest solution is the one Daniel wrote before!

First you need to check if your backing tracks have fixed tempo. Then if they do, you need to overdub the click sound on them. Then you just record everything on mp3 player and put good headphones for the drummer. This is the easiest and cheapest solution. You still need good mp3 player and good headphones in order to hear it on the gig. Rehearse this on rehearsals in studio with high volume before going on stage.
