It takes time with the fingers. Regardless of age. But it comes if you keep at it, and focus. Based on what I have observed here, it is the same for everybody, regardless of age. So long as you don't have early arthritis or something, it will come if you stick at it. I think being older can help you also, you can be smarter, and work smarter. For example, I don't waste my time with stuff like collaborations or recording. I don't have time to fool around. I just practice lessons, that is time best spent, by a long shot. I have 120 I work on, and intend to never have more than that. That is all I want to know, and it is enough. One needs to set goals and limits, or you never reach your potential. If a lesson comes up that I can't resist, I punt one of the 120 to make room and forget them. Two very good ones recently were these...
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/i_want...ay_in_megadeth/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/joe_sa...lways_with_you/ and I punted two others to make room. And I don't miss them. Anymore I look for something very special and unique, because the 120 I have are I think the Cream of the crop, and it takes something pretty good for me to be willing to punt one. But like I said, I am mastering 120, and that is all I want, I think that is knowing enough, and at that point I am best off just perfecting what I have selected, than looking for anything more, enough is enough. Just thought being in the direction of your age, I would share my philosophy with you, and it seems to be working well fo me, at least that is my perception. edit: Oh, I just read a book you might be interested in, I thought it quite good, scholarly. "Retribution" by a Brit, Max Hastings. On the last year of WWII in the Pacific. He has a companion dealing with Europe called "Armageddon" which I have but have not read yet. I did read his Korean War book, pretty good, but not as good as "Retribution". This post has been edited by fkalich: Jul 30 2009, 05:38 AM |
