Hey Kris.

I was thinking recently About all the great guitarists that are from sweden.

You, Marcus, Yngwie just off the top of my head.

And there's many more aswell.

Not just guitarists but I've seen some Drummers and other Musicians from there, Who are Insanely good players. laugh.gif

So, are people from Sweden, great musicians by default? laugh.gif

Or if we Practise hard enough, can we play as good as those guys? cool.gif

The real answer is Socialism. Every kid who wants it can get private lessons and rent an instrument for free or almost free, which results in more people who are naturally musically talented getting more training from an early age and discovering their inner potential. I imagine in countries where you have to pay for private lessons out of your own pocket, people who could be great musicians will never know it because their parents couldn't afford it.

oh boy blink.gif

a little simplistic, don't ya think....99% of the people I know went to public school, that's publicly, tax funded education. In most of those schools, you could get a free musical education whether it was marching band, or the symphony. The schools would rent instruments if needed at an incredibly fair price. Furthermore, just because the education is free, doesn't necessarily make it a quality education. not trying to be harsh, but making it political is silly.

Alright, here's another explanation: Socialism. Swedish unemployment insurance gives (or has in the past at least, new government now) you 80% of your salary you had when you got fired for as long as you want to basically. Many musicians use and have used this to earn a good salary while working full time with their music

Northern Europe does have the best water quality in the world, but I doubt clean water has any effect on your musical abilities...

I thought this would be another fishing question! ohmy.gif

About Swedish people being more "talented" I don't know. I do have a theory about why Swedish guitarists perhaps are a little more technical when comparing to the average.

In Sweden there is no live music culture - which means it's extremely hard to make a living of gigging etc - touring in Sweden is an expression that belongs to a fary tale.

So what do you do if you want to make it as a professional guitarist and can't afford the ticket to the US? Well you sit and practice all day long...maybe blink.gif

PS Don't take this answer too seriously

Great answer.

It kind of reminds me of how Steve Vai and Satch are both from Long Island, New York.

Who would have thought that 2 of the top players in the world would be from the same Area blink.gif

Also worth noting is rock and metal are very big in sweden compared to the size of the country, so it follows that we have many great rock musicians. I'm sure if you looked at other genres the difference wouldn't be all that great, or nonexistent.
