GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Gary Moore

I dont think his style is that hard at all really, a true blues man in his solo career. Could be something worth looking into.. like i say it isnt that hard because of his blues...... what you guys think? biggrin.gif

I love Gary Moor blues.

Its harder to play than it sounds though - he is a true genius. I would put him along side David Gilmour in terms of phrasing skills.

Well worth studying in my opinion

Gary Moore is Awesome, I've just really started listening to him in the past couple days-I mean I've heard still got the blues and a couple others before.

But, Damn he is Great. He plays the Same style I do, Hard Rock/Blues, or heavy blues however you want to call it.

I love this cover of red house http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXYjEMTQRm0

I get the same feeling from watching that as I do when I hear SRV. ohmy.gif just blows me away.

I've Just added to my list of top 5 favorite Guitarists.

1. Eric Clapton
2. SRV
3.Eric Johnson
4.Gary Moore
5.Jimi Hendrix

Ha I just happened across that video for the first time myself a few days ago, wonderful vid. His solo stuff is awesome - but he's not limited to just blues. His stuff with thin lizzy is absolutely mind blowing. Just listen to Black Rose (and by that I mean the entire album). So he also did a lot of hard rock... and he did some borderline metal stuff in his solo career too.

I think he can definitely cross the borderline of cheesy sometimes in the lyrics to his songs, but his guitar playing never disappoints, and a lot of the lyrics are very good, plus he's a very good singer too.

I'd say he's in my top ... 7 maybe. my list is much like Slammers, in a different order, would just include a few others:

David Gilmour (by the way I saw a comment in that video that his gig at the same show was far better.. if its the version of Marooned I saw, it was great but the red house cover was much better)
Jeff Beck
Jimmy Page
Mark Knopfler
Clapton
SRV
Moore
Hendrix
Keith Richards
Billy Gibbons

and I know theres many more but these guys are the core.

JVM I'm surprised the guy from your avatar isn't there tongue.gif

Posted by: JVM Feb 15 2008, 04:15 AM

Welllllll for a guitarist he's up there, but he's mainly a songwriter and great singer. He writes great riffs though biggrin.gif Going to go play one of 'em right now... tongue.gif

Posted by: Slammer Feb 15 2008, 04:24 AM

is it the Strumming one with the Metronome? tongue.gif

Posted by: JVM Feb 15 2008, 04:29 AM

No, it's the help me she's out of her mind one tongue.gif

Posted by: JVM Feb 15 2008, 04:29 AM

But I'm surprised you remember that video biggrin.gif

[edit] ..used to be, if you hit the fast reply before a few minutes after your last post it'd just add it into your last one, did that change?

What an awesome cover for red house! smile.gif

Gary Moore is a true inspiration for me, he's vibrato, precise bends, perfect fast but not too fast runs and amazing feel are exactly the things I'm aiming for with my playing.

Out In The Fields biggrin.gif

Posted by: Smells Feb 15 2008, 10:50 AM

His "Victims of the Future" album for me is one of his best, it was my favourite album of choice when I was in my teens and I still love listening to it now.

As far as the opening post where its claimed his style is "easy" unsure.gif I`d have to strongly disagree his technique is second to none, his speed with precision is awesome and the man plays with amazing feel, he`s a true great in my opinion, and also manages to do this whilst pulling the most amazing funny faces laugh.gif

I`d give my right arm to play like Gary Moore ..... unsure.gif ang on ... that wont work then... but you get my drift smile.gif

Wow - I love Gary - saw him live one time, phenomenal - can't even describe it ...

One of the absolute greats!!

Posted by: blindwillie Feb 16 2008, 02:55 PM

He's going to play here in June I think it was.

I'm not sure if I will go and see him though. I'm a bit angry at him wink.gif
He cancelled the last time he was supposed to perform here, 2 summers ago I think, because the plane that was arranged to fly him in was below his standards.

Where is he playing??? I tried to find that information but can't seem to find a tour date for Sweden. But only after I engaged two band mates to go with me.
If he's not coming I just have to explain to them I trused a guy on the Internet who said he was... wink.gif

Hang on, I'll see if I can find any info. It was in the local newspaper that he would play at Pite Havsbad. I think it was in June.
I'll return with more info.
Hmmm, weird. Their calendar doesnt conrian the summer months, which is there busiest time sad.gif
I'll be back.

Posted by: blindwillie Feb 17 2008, 08:08 PM

They are negotiating obviously, I'll keep you updated.
It would be cool to meet you in person.
http://www.kuriren.nu/nyheter/artikel.aspx?articleid=3190231

Interesting part roughly translated out of curtesy to our english listeners smile.gif
We are looking for an artist that's been around since the 70- 80-ies, who is not a one-hit-wonder and primarily attracts a bit older people.

According to sources available to Kuriren Gary Moore ... is already contracted.

Posted by: MickeM Feb 18 2008, 12:22 AM

"a bit older people" yeah that's me mellow.gif

Cool you found it, I was searching for an even in Stockholm so that's why. I'm up for Pite Havsbad I have to check with the rest of the gubbs. It's difficult to get a cabin or hotel room summer time there huh?
Will definitly see you there if we're coming. But it's far far from here... lol
Thanks for looking it up.

Stockholm? Nothing ever happens in Stockholm wink.gif
It's only fair that Stockholm have to come to me for once. The accumulated amount I've spent on concerts is insane really thanks to flight tickets to Stockholm and Göteborg sad.gif

I would guess they will be selling packaged deals with a room at the hotel and ticket for the event, besides that it's probably sold out. It's a very popular tourist place in the summer.
I'm still angry at him but I'm sure I will have forgiven him by the summer so I will go. I'm sure we could work something out though. You could get cheaper lodging here in Luleå probably and ride with me to Piteå, about 45 km. Worst case would be our guestroom. Maybe my wife would be thrilled to have three more musicians in da house... or maybe not wink.gif
What about your friends? Are they as crazy as you are, or are they just regular gangsta's?

Keep a look out for he's touring schedule though. Would make sense if he played in some more places in Sweden when he's here. I'll keep you updated about Piteå. It would be fun to see you here.

/edit: And yeah, the cabins needs to be booked way in advance. Might be that some are reserved for the concert though.

My friends are not crazy, they are way beyond krejsi!!! They like to empty the bar at peoples homes and then trash the guestroom ;-) They really put their good reputation as school teacher, IT consultant and two of them mid-managers at risk. laugh.gif
Thanks for the offer, now we'll just wait and see the replies drop in as I moved the event from Sthlm to Piteå. I've revieverd one negative already laugh.gif
