It doesn't sound quite as impressive as it looks Alex!! You can really only use one pedal at a time or suffer horrendous feedback!!

Ahaaa that Red one The Satchurator - in my group of friends we're having loads of fun because of it one of my mates in Mozart Rocks had to use one on short notice, because his rig went down right before the gig and was dancing around the stage because he just couldn't manage to press the switch since that - the story with the red pedal

I wanna get rid of the Line 6 pedal I have right now - it's the most unreliable thing in live playing... You have to REALLY STEP ON IT to make it work...

Beat THAT!! It's David Byrne's (Talking Heads) art piece.....it's not really used as a live rig. I saw a video for this, and you can walk across the whole thing to make different sounds. Once again, it's an "art piece", and not used to actually play live.
At work so I can't take a pic, but I use....
Ernie Ball Volume Pedal: I LOVE to have an extra 10% to give at all times, for live shows. Screw the sound guy, I always hold back during soundcheck!!
Seymour Duncan Pickup Boost: A GREAT, and cheap clean boost. I leave it on all of the time.
Crybaby wah: Standard. Must have for funk.
Boss Octave Pedal: OC2 I think? If it works for Eric Krasno (Soulive), it's good enough for me!! LOVE it!!
HBE Power Screamer: Can't say enough about how much I love this pedal, as opposed to a "tube screamer". So awesome. Worth the extra $$.

Steven has always been about the playing over the gear which you have to give him credit for. He uses one of his signature distortion stomp boxes for boost. I've tried this pedal and it's basically a pretty standard Ibanez overdrive paired with another fairly standard ibanez distortion. Neither one very distinctive in terms of tone and far below the punch/grit of the old green tube screamer. But as it is VAI honestly, it's mostly about the wah wah, the whammy bar and Steve Vai himself.
My current pedal board is still the crusty DIGITECH GNX3 which was all the rage with Metal Heads for it's crazy gain and spot on tube screamer emulator. I keep it around most for use as a preamp as the amp modeling in it is quite good and using it in the chain before Guitar Rig for example, makes software emulation a lot more convincing.
I actually use it on a mixer stand in the studio to have acces to the controls, as shown here below the keyboard.

A very good point Todd! I was the same in the 80's when all my friends were starting to use multi's i was still 'stomping' away!! I also tried that Jemini and, although it does make nice sounds, I didn't think that there were any tonal advantages of having it instead of the two separate Ibanez pedals!

So, you use the Amp Modelling in the GNX and then the Cabinets and Rack in GR, or do you add an Amp in GR as well?

I went through lots of stomps, here is the most recent configuration I used, Malekko Echo 300B, OCD, Boss Switcher, Dod FX25 envelope filter, Dunlop 535Q wah. I sold them all out tho. Today, all I need is tubescreamer, wah and maybe a delay, but I don't have it atm.

So, you use the Amp Modelling in the GNX and then the Cabinets and Rack in GR, or do you add an Amp in GR as well?
in Guitar Rig, most of my recent custom patches don't use an amp or cab but instead I use the SANSAMP rack piece inside GR and the "control room/cabs" control. I never found an amp/cab combo that I really liked. But I make sure to make the patch sound ok without the GNX3, and without the 20db of gain from the rack mount active direct box that I put before the gnx. I have a BBE sound processor that I've racked but have not added to my signal path yet.
So I'm half hardware, half software I recently had to pull my actual amps/cabs back out to deal with my 8 string guitar though.
here is a pic of a typical setup and here is the link to the GUITAR RIG preset Vault

Morley Wah/Vol / OCD / BB+ / EH Small Clone/ Ibanez FL9 / Boss TR-2 / Boss DD-20 / MXR Carbon Copy

Keeping it simple! I've been thinking about getting a tube screamer and a delay (and or) a reverb, maybe a wah-pedal aswell, while on the topic of pedalboards.

Hi Alex. I totally like it! The quality of the integrated effects is super and they are easy to edit. But what I like the most is that it can also manage my single pedals as well as switching my Amp. Giving the opportunity that you can separate the "brain unit" from the controller and integrate everything you have into a rack system, keeps the length of the cables to a absolute minimum. So no cable chaos anymore. Just one single CAT 5 Cable from the Floorboard to the "brain" in the rack. Therefor you will be gig ready in 5 Minutes.
I tried with a 4 way looper and a separate amp switcher before and it was a mess, whenever the setlist changed, I needed to rearrange the looper and the amp switcher as well. Thats over now !
cheers,
S.

Hi Alex,
I have two amps :
A Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier + Mesa 4X12 Straight Cabinet and a
The Triamp has a beautiful clean channel and a very classic british sounding overdrive, the mesa off course does what it does best. Its a gain machine. But despite the opinions of many other mesa recti users I like the Clean Channel as well. It sounds very warm in combination with a 6l6 Power Section.
This is all managed by the g-system. Even the channels are separately switchable with the G-System. The Mesa has no midi interface, but you can use the analog switch relays of the g-system to do that. The H&K Triamp has a Midi Module. So you are able to switch channels via MIDI. Different Channel combinations on both amps per patch are possible.
cheers,
S.

I'm a HUGE Fan of guitar rig The stock distorted sounds were not very good but once you tweak them they can be very cool. Here is a "Tube/Blues" sort of tone I came up with.
I love Triamp!!! I wanted to get one for a long time but I am scared that it's not gonna survive my tours Because we are playing 60 - 70 days on a row and usually after it amp needs to be replaced
Yeah I love it too. It is such a versatile amp. You are able to cover such a wide range of sounds with it. And in my opinion it is one of the few amps with no "weak" channel it. In regards to touring you might be right. Even though the Triamp is well made, I needed to have it repaired twice in 4 years. And I just play only 20 shows a year at most . And I am pretty careful with my equipment.
But you might want to consider buying one for studio jobs. What amp are you playing at the moment if I may ask ?
cheers,
S.

Keeping it simple! I've been thinking about getting a tube screamer and a delay (and or) a reverb, maybe a wah-pedal aswell, while on the topic of pedalboards.
When you've got a Mesa Boogie, the pedals are just details

That is a sexy rig you hare there sir! Minus that wire glob to the right
My daily simple and clean, all I need is a ISP Decimator and either V30s for the cab or a new Recto cab.

NICE MIC SETUP! Those mics are just amazing together. IS that a 609e? I bet you get some killer tone recorded.

Yis sir! That sure is the e609/SM57 combo. Really digging the sound it gives also. It has the natural live sound of my cab, next up is replacing that cab for some v30s!
