What's up everyone. I've been enjoying the videos that Kris has posted on UG for a while, and after snooping around the free videos and forums (especially mr cockburn's excellent theory posts) I decided to join for myself to get in on the rest of the goodness.
I'm very much into death metal, mostly from Scandinavia (Arch Enemy and Opeth are absolute gods (and goddess) in my book), some symphonic black metal, and a little industrial to keep things simple. I also enjoy classical acoustic every now and then to help break things up a bit.
I am 23 and started playing guitar when I was twelve. My parents signed me up for acoustic lessons (I don't recommend starting with that, for your finger's sake!) which I took for 4-5 years, but I always came home and busted out my old electric. I haven't been able to locate any good metal/shredder/neo-classical instructors in my area. So, about a year ago I started watching online guitar lessons on different sites and reading on musical theory, and I believe that I've more than doubled my skill level since then. Currently, I practice about 2 hours per day, and I expect that number to go nowhere but up.
I don't feel that I've really attained the skill level that I should have after a decade-worth of playing, which is where GMC comes in, hopefully!
