GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Gabriel Leopardi Jams With You!

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Sep 10 2019, 04:16 PM

Hello everybody!! It's time for a new collab!

As we've done in the past here: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=60311.

This time, I'll be jamming with you. biggrin.gif

The idea is simple. Record yourself doing a quick/spontaneous jam over the backing track. Share the video, only guitar audio and audio mix. I'll record a Jams inspired by each participant take.

Then I'll share a final video with this structure: Participant 1 - Gab Jam - Participant 2 - Gab Jam - Participant 3 - Gab Jam and so...

The backing is based on Kris recent lesson "https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Beginner-Jam-2/" and was originally recorded by Darius for this other lesson: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Beginner-Volume-Swells-Slides/.

I'll provide two very short sections. You can jam over one or both of them:

Backing track 1:  Backing_1.mp3 ( 844.24K ) : 365

Backing track 2:  Backing_2.mp3 ( 375.97K ) : 282

Suggested scales:

Gab that was great, thank you, What I really like about this kind of collab is that you kinda show us what we could have done. I really liked the way in part one that you mimicked my cut off notes at the beginning and then took it to another level, you were really into it, brilliant AND inspiring. Thank you. cool.gif

Hi Gab

it's ok for me

I recorded audio this morning, I feel good
I should try to make a take this day

Posted by: Caelumamittendum Sep 12 2019, 08:52 AM

Just for your information, Gabriel, I removed delay and reverb from my guitar-only files, allowing you to add that if you want to in the final mix.

I think all my collab takes follow the same pattern and to me they all sound the same by now. It's so annoying! How can I acquire new patterns for my playing?

Thank you MisterM. I enjoy your take and tasty playing!

I use a Fender Hotrod Deluxe (1 channel clean/ 1 with OD). I boost slightly with a tubescreamer. I record with a Shure 57 mic.
I adjust a lot on tone/volume knobs with guitar and OD pedal for different tone.

Gab, I edited my original post and added a take for the second part. Thanks!

Wow Gab, the result is incredible. You totally bring our takes to a new level.
@Degroot your improvisation here is wonderful.
Every take so far is so awesome, is great to be part of it. It is also a challenge for me, for future collabs I really want to achieve new skills: technique, rhythm, tone, and be able to compose memorable music. Recording ourselves really help to identify our weak points.
I also love collabs because here we can feel we are making music, and is nice how, despite we are in different levels, we can make music together smile.gif

Hi mate! Iā€™m sorry. I replaced your audio takes but as you said that you were going to play the same takes again, I thought that you didnā€™t record new videos.

By the way audio and video sync looks great, and your telecaster is beautiful! Also, your playing is very tasty in this one. I like that extra harmonized phrase added.

Excuse me for being unpleasant ... it's hard not to express my feeling - I'm mad mad.gif
2nd catch is shifted.

My point of view : Upload on youtube too fast,
Already almost 400 views, I understand that you do not change anything.
Nothing can comfort me now.

The way is long and difficult, you know it. it is a definite demotivation for me to watch my performance
My dream is to become as good as you and every video is important to me especially on this kind of collab

On Kris's jam it's the same. It is very disappointing.
I worked to improve my take and it is the draft that is mixed with bad audio/video files.

I donā€™t know if I would participate again under these conditions.
I know itā€™s a lot of work on the mix, but the proposal to jam with you comes from you.

Hey MisterM,

Dude, you are a great guitar player. I guess we all have the dream to become as good or even better than our instructors and it definitively takes time, patience and a lot of hard work.

I think that sometimes when we post a video we have the feeling that we could have done it a bit better. When a new collab starts you know that we want to participate ASAP, but my advice is: wait a little while until you feel that you really mastered the solo you created, you feel comfortable with your tone and everything and then proceed to record your take (audio and video) and post it in the forum, one final audio take (wet and dry) and one final video.

Please don't take me wrong, just think that if you post several audio and/or video files it would be really confusing for the instructors to know which one is the "final" one.

Keep challenging yourself for the collabs to come as you do but don't forget to enjoy the process

Regards,

Angel.

That would be a shame , you had a great take, we guitar players are are worst enemies, if someone is listening to this critiquing every little flaw they have missed to point ( including ourselves )

Posted by: Phil66 Oct 18 2019, 08:26 PM

Absolutely brilliant Gab, thank you. I don't know if others agree but, with my take at least, I like how you use similar licks and show us how I could have taken it to another level with more skill, very inspiring.

Mr M, don't be mad, you takes are great, we're never satisfied with our own work, in future just be sure that you are at least a little bit happy and then and ONLY THEN, post your FINAL video and audio. These are all about enjoying the process and being inspired by everyone wink.gif

Thanks again Gab, I'm sure we all appreciate the time and effort you put in to do these cool.gif

That is exactly my thought. The journey is what makes you a better player, not the final mix. That's just a nice bonus. I'd still participate in these collabs even if my takes were to be dumped completely.

Posted by: Todd Simpson Oct 18 2019, 08:54 PM

Dude sad.gif I watched the video and enjoyed it quite a bit. I didn't really notice anything wrong. Most folks watch a vid like this and don't get to kinked up about the minutia of it, they just want to hear some good music played well. As an instrumental track, this is just great IMHO. It's very listenable and enjoyable, and that's really the important thing for the viewer. They just want it to be good and it is good. I get that you want it to be perfect, but sadly, things are rarely perfect, but this video is honest to God quite good. I had no idea there were any issues at all until I read your email detailing it. If you wouldn't have said anything, I'd never have noticed and enjoyed it just the same. Please know that your playing on here is very good and you are improving every time I see you play. It's hard to not want everything to be spot on when one works hard, but whe the end result is as good as this, I don't think it's worth complaining. It's a win, take the victory lap smile.gif

HiĀ ThanksĀ forĀ yourĀ support,Ā

IĀ stillĀ apologizeĀ forĀ breakingĀ theĀ atmosphereĀ onĀ thisĀ forum.Ā
You did a great job, the problem comes from me

GuitarĀ isĀ aĀ veryĀ seriousĀ thingĀ forĀ me.Ā
AĀ passion,Ā aĀ needĀ - SometimesĀ IĀ takeĀ thingsĀ withĀ tooĀ muchĀ emotion.

when I was 12, I learned guitar alone. I stopped at 18 because I did not have anyone to guide me.
When I turned 40, I discovered GMC and the light came on again.
Today I know that the road will be long, but it is traced.

OnĀ theĀ mentorĀ thread,Ā GabĀ alwaysĀ asksĀ meĀ moreĀ andĀ IĀ appreciateĀ theĀ
approach,Ā becauseĀ itĀ makesĀ meĀ progress..Ā
OnĀ thisĀ collab,Ā IĀ tryĀ toĀ giveĀ theĀ bestĀ asĀ heĀ teachesĀ me.Ā
WhyĀ theĀ detailsĀ don'tĀ matterĀ anymore,Ā IĀ don'tĀ understand ?

HiĀ AngelĀ
IĀ agreeĀ onĀ theĀ principle.Ā
NowĀ I'llĀ uploadĀ theĀ finalĀ video.Ā
IĀ donā€™tĀ workĀ muchĀ improvisationĀ andĀ whenĀ IĀ buildĀ sentences I like them to be successful.

HiĀ jstcrsrsĀ
SomeĀ people startĀ theĀ backingtrackĀ andĀ playĀ oneĀ shot.Ā
ThisĀ givesĀ aĀ realĀ spontaneityĀ andĀ IĀ understandĀ thatĀ theyĀ doĀ notĀ seek
toĀ correctĀ smallĀ errors.Ā MyĀ wayĀ ofĀ doingĀ itĀ isĀ different,Ā
IĀ preferĀ toĀ workĀ asĀ IĀ doĀ onĀ lessons, becauseĀ thatā€™sĀ whyĀ IĀ signedĀ upĀ forĀ GMCĀ

HiĀ Phill66Ā
I agreeĀ withĀ you,Ā thatā€™sĀ whatĀ IĀ answeredĀ toĀ Angel,Ā theĀ principleĀ ofĀ
thisĀ newĀ "call/response collab"Ā isĀ absolutelyĀ inspiringĀ andĀ great,Ā
Iā€™dĀ loveĀ toĀ seeĀ myĀ finalĀ takeĀ inĀ thisĀ collab,Ā butĀ itĀ willĀ serveĀ
meĀ asĀ aĀ lesson for the futur.

HiĀ MadfishĀ
yes,Ā collabsĀ areĀ aĀ bonusĀ -Ā howeverĀ IĀ onlyĀ participateĀ ifĀ IĀ feelĀ anĀ inspiration.Ā
IĀ recordedĀ someĀ ofĀ themĀ thatĀ IĀ neverĀ postedĀ online.Ā

HiĀ ToddĀ
IĀ watchĀ theĀ instructorĀ videosĀ andĀ Iā€™mĀ alwaysĀ amazed.
Iā€™mĀ aĀ perfectionistand and I would like to reach this level.
IĀ tryĀ toĀ getĀ theĀ bestĀ everyĀ timeĀ -Ā Itā€™sĀ inĀ myĀ character,Ā IĀ canā€™tĀ change.Ā
ItĀ isĀ aĀ qualityĀ butĀ alsoĀ aĀ defect - I know it.

Hi mate! I'm so sorry of reading this. I honestly watched the final video once I finished mixing and editing it and I didn't notice anything wrong. All takes are beautiful and I love seeing us jamming together.

We always try our best but sometimes we fail. Please remember that the main goal of these collabs is to have fun and practice improvisation and that's what we did here!

MisterM, I apologize for this error.

I thought the take in the final mix was wonderful, MisterM smile.gif One of my favorites!

Hi Gab

I hope you understand my point of view.
I think you have to be patient before uploading the video.

My proposition :
1st time: Show us the video "unpublished" and ask if everyone is ok.
2d time: in live.

or

fixe the rules : one take / one shot

Let's live the adventure together until the end

Hi Cael

Thank you ... Nothing can comfort me, but I appreciate the compliment
Your licks are a high level, great technic/melodious/killer tone
Collab start with the bar high.

I think having Gab produce the video and release it for us to check is expecting too much, he already puts a lot of work in to do the video, mixing and syncing all together so it is seamless and then, to have someone say they want to change it would be more work and even more if more than one person wants changes.

I wasn't aware of any rules but most people just post one video. I think this is your best option, make sure it's exactly what you want and only then post your video.

I have occasionally posted a Soundcloud file to ask Gab if it was okay but made it not available for download so it can't get mixed up.

Your take was just great buddy, I can see you improving all the time. Enjoy these collabs for what they are, a bit of fun and for some of us, the only time we get to interact with other players.

Peace

It was a great exchange and a lot of cool melodic ideas.

Thanks guys for your nice comments! I can't stop listening to this track. I play the video every day and I'm proud of what we got.

Congrats everybody. It's been a big pleasure to jam with you! wub.gif

This is the BEST Collab I've been a part of! And I'm glad I was! This is breathtaking and amazing in very aspect! Everyone did great but Gab did a wonderful job with both the responses and putting it all together!!! It's on par with Becker's Valley of Fire Collab in my book and it will be very hard to beat in our future Collabs smile.gif Compiling the video must have taken a lot of time but I can tell by watching that you enjoyed it a lot!

Thanks for your words mate!! Yeah, Iā€™ve enjoyed doing this one a lot and I also think that itā€™s one of the coolest GMC collabs!

Thanks for joining!

@MisterM, I am not sure what happened this time -

But when I did the same mistake as Gab with your take, you had edited an old post to add the updated files. One advice is to make sure that you create a new post in the collab thread whenever you want to draw the instructors' attention towards new files. This in order to make sure we don't miss anything (due to misunderstandings).

We wouldn't want to miss your killer lines next time smile.gif

hi Kris

Letā€™s not talk about it anymore.
I know weā€™re very involved, and itā€™s not easy to bundle the take, especially if itā€™s multiple.

Iā€™ll take care next time
