GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Iron Maiden Starter Song?

Posted by: lefty01 Sep 14 2007, 10:26 PM

Hi everyone.
I know there are a lot of Iron Maiden fans on here, and most of you have been playing much longer than I. Any advice on what Madien songs would be good to start with...I've been playing about a year. Thanks. smile.gif

Holy Smoke
Run to the Hills
The Number of the Beast
Children of the damned
The Trooper

Thats a few that are pretty easy, atleast the intros tongue.gif

The easier ones... (except the solos)

Wasting love (In this one the solo is also easy)
Wasted Time (the intro is a great aƱternate picking exercise)
The rime of the ancient mariner (This one has a lot of part that could be used as short exercises)
Fear of the dark
Iron Maiden
Running free

Yeah those are also great, specially Wasting Love. I got alot of ideas for own songs just by learning it.

Oh btw, its "Wasted years" not "Wasted Time" biggrin.gif laugh.gif

Once you get a few of those down try Invaders from the Beast album. A lot of fun and fairly challenging .

Hey, im Alex im also a big Iron Maiden fan.

I would say the most easy for you to begin with is Wasting Love as Gabriel mentioned.
I started with this song myself. Other alternates if you have rarer songs they made is Burning Ambition.
Prower is not so hard to, and Iron Maiden is basically two different riffs in that song.
No more lies if you look apart from the solo is also very much of the same.

Hope this helps, up the Irons from Alex! wink.gif

burning ambitions is pretty hard for a beginner. You should try "running free"

The first maiden song i played was aces high. But the trooper isn't hard other than the gallop. Maybe run to the hills or last idea would have to be Wrathchild

Songs i first learned:

The Trooper
The Number Of The Beast
Journeyman
The Wicker Man
Run To The Hills
No More Lies
Prowler
Sanctuary
Remember Tomorrow
Killers
Hallowed Be Thy Name
Dance Of Death (Not as hard as it seems, trust me)
Powerslave
Wrathchild
Prodigal Son
Wasted Years
Somewhere In Time
The Prisoner

Now, the solos to these songs might be tough, but the riffs and everything else are alot easier. With practice though, any Maiden song is attemptable, even some of there more technical stuff, like a few riffs from "Dream Of Mirrors", "Aces High", and "Hallowed Be Thy Name" are easier to learn because maiden often use patterns that are "Finger Friendly"

learn many intros first, and then do a breakthrough= learn a maiden solo.

the first maiden solo i learned was The trooper:D:D
a friend of mine learned it, then i had to learn it too, and i worked my way to it. and some months before that, i could just play maiden intros and canon rock intro.

Its very important with breakthroughs!!!

Prowler

The intro to fear of the dark is dead simple and sounds awesome
