No string skipping thread will be complete without the master himself.

Scarified by Racer X is a good example of a song that incorporates the string skipping technique.

An all time Classic in my book smile.gif Learning the main guitar rythm alone will help your alternate picking in a SERIOUS way.

When I hear string skipping and AP, it is not P. Gilbert that comes to my mind, but rather J. Petrucci. I like his precise and fast AP technique better.. Here is a video with both solos from Erotomania, have a look at the second one for string skipping..

I recorded my old string skipping exercise this morning, I composed it years ago and this thread brought it back to my memory. I haven't practiced it in years as you can hear and I played it on my nylon string because the strings don't hurt as much on my index finger.
Let me know what you think of it smile.gif

Oh and how do you embed the links to show on the actual thread??
Cheers
Pat

Cool stuff! I'm more of a sweep picking guy when it comes to arpeggios, but every now and then I dabble in the string skipped stuff. PG and JP get me excited to try it now and again. tongue.gif

Cool thread! Paul Gilbert is the king of Alternate picking String Skipping.

We have really good lessons about this technique at GMC!
