Ran across this little free VST called GClip, very easy to use and surprisingly effective. I've used it in my master signal chain with some great effects, Old songs I have that had some clips in the mix are completely brought down to a normal level.
I run this, EQ > GClip > W1Limiter >GClip, and it can really boost the volume without ruining the dynamics. Maybe not a boost to a professionally mastered CD, but it does a good job nonetheless! http://www.gvst.co.uk/gclip.htm And some screenshots of it: http://www.gvst.co.uk/gclip_screenshot.htm |

Didn't know about it, thanks for info. I try to avoid getting clipped tracks, but if it isn't possible to re-record this can come in handy...

Well not just for clipping, I also use it for evening out the snare and kick drums as well.

If you're not going to mastering and want level then GClip can be very useful. One of the nicer things about GClip is the variable soft knee - which can help a lot with the transition. Also, and like Uncreator is doing, you're better adding small amounts of limiting in several stages rather than a lot all at once. If you're going to mastering though it's best to leave limiters off the 2 bus. -------------------- Get your music professionally mastered by anl AES registered Mastering Engineer. Thanks for advice. I have couple of clipped tracks that could use some smoothing out, I'll give it a go
