ive seen people when playing live switching on pedals for the chorus, ok maybe not distortion, anything else? Depends on the song! Could be anything... maybe some modulation like a chorus, maybe some milder/harder distortion, or even going from clean to dist or viceversa... or any other effect for that matter. -------------------- Guitars:

It depends on what booster does. If it is a volume boost, some wouldn't hurt, if it is overdrive boost, to push the front end of the amp, then it's normal thing to do. Boost can also stand for boosting the mids to cut through.
If you only need something to get things dirty, I recommend a light and transparent overdrive pedal. There are so many on the market, specially for your budget. If you planned to spend that much, you have some cool options. My advice for you would be to get something like Radial Tonebone Classic. This should get your covered for most applications. If you want to keep things clean and simple, Fulltone OCD is a good choice for light ovedrive and pushing the front end. Also, a BB preamp would do the trick nicely. You need a good tube amp that can be cranked in that case. This post has been edited by Ivan Milenkovic: Feb 28 2010, 07:32 PM -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE

What exactly are we talking about here, a distortion pedal? In this case I would always recommend an Ibanez Tube Screamer, best distortian pedal ever in my humble opinion.

overdrive on a chorus would be needed in a situation like Metallica's One, or Nirvana's smells like teen spirit, to mention very known examples...but for the most part it's only used when doing that type of extreme change in parts
