Yep, all those things in one kind of angry song. Lyrically this is my first Steampunk song, But also conversely - Its based off another Alastair Reynolds book (Some of you know a lot of my songs come from his writing) - So to honor the amazing Alastair Reynolds first Steampunk novel, I wrote my first steampunk song - Lyrically at least.

Musically, I went for simple structure and approach - Angry riffs, fast drums, and lots of cool little fills. So, please let me know what you think of this, I am quite proud of it - But as always, There is always something I can improve upon, so let me know your thoughts! smile.gif

Lyrics, As always:

Its basically about an epic aerial/ ground battle between a future apocalyptic earth gang of wastelanders as it were (mad max anyone?) and the overhead flying fleet of hundreds of zeppelins made for war trying to reach the last city on earth.

And on a side-note: Whenever I mention "swarm" its a reference to the zeppelin fleet, and anytime I mention "wasteland" or "horde" its a reference to the mad max style army of evil dudes cool.gif

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Terminal Skies
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

High above the barren earth
Zeppelins rule the sky
Steam fueled war machines
Aerial dominance

Fighting off the hordes
Of corrupted wasteland minds
Cannons roar through the air
Bullets race through the wind

Above infested forests
The wasteland retaliates
Bombardments from land and sky
Ripping the swarm apart

As we near the city
Bullets rip through the hulls
Coasting from the peaks of flight
Crashing down to the spire

The winds set ablaze
The fleet coming down
Our war comes to earth
From Terminal Skies

Our wings have been cut
The skies taken away
The fight comes to the ground
At the last city of man

Bullets ripping through their flesh
Blades cutting through our limbs
Violence escalating
As our birds fall from the sky

The winds set ablaze
The fleet coming down
Our war comes to earth
From Terminal Skies

The armada's of swarm
Torn from friendly skies
The last city of man
Becomes the battleground for truth

The wasteland pushes forward
Taking there dead in stride
Birds alight with wings of fire
Still falling from the sky

The last bullets fired
The last cannons howl
A day of death
The swarm crushes the horde

The winds set ablaze
The fleet coming down
Our war comes to earth
From Terminal Skies

It's a sub-genre of Science Fiction in which the stories take place in worlds where steam-power is the main source of energy. Its usually 1800 to early 1900's in terms of time line (at least traditionally), The novel this song is based off of, called "Terminal World" - is actually several thousands and thousands of years in earths future - Albeit in a somewhat apocalyptic manner.

For super specificity - check this, Its pretty good description.

Thanks man!

As for the lyrics, Metaphors are too long for the short structure I am using. I couldn't contain all the information I wanted into the structure with them. Instead I used symbolism, the word "bird" represents zeppelins, "hordes" represent an army, as does the word "wasteland" for the area they come from. And "swarm" for the entire fleet of zeppelins.

I didn't want to make another 10-13 minute song, So I used this instead, simple and effective.

Also, if anyone has the chance check out a little video I did for the solo parts of the song!
