I don't know if it was linked but on that day we saw many more helicopters than usual flying into Monaco. Probably the celebs of to their multi million dollar yachts or 15k a night hotels.

I suppose they could have swam or taken a row boat for better optics smile.gif No matter what a smattering of celebrities think or do, we are cooking our planet slowly . The ice sheets are melting. Florida runs pumps 24 hours a day in miami to keep it from sinking. So conjecture and finger pointing is moot. We have done this to ourselves and we will have to live with it.

In this day and age and with GOOGLE heating the operation, did they have to be in Italy, couldn't there have been a huge video conference?

I'm back now thanks, we were at Menton, only about five miles as the crow/helicopter flies from Monaco. We could see the helicopters out at sea flying towards there.

Cheers

Yet another great example of rich people being out of touch with reality and having no idea of the optics of what they are doing. Yes, a video conference would have been much more efficient and less polluting. However, they were probably able to attract all of the celebrities by offering them private jet vacations to italy to visit this "summit". This was issued on Obama time, the canceled environment law. They gave China (something like 10-15 year I think) extra time for conversion of non-polluting systems cause it started developing industry much later than USA or Europe. Basically China wanted time to grow its economy enough to catch-up...conditions were debatable (how much time given to China) but in a nut-shell their request did make sense.

If it wasn't cancelled probably these times USA/UN would start pushing regulations for environment protection (maybe even sell to China those solutions) which also means extra expense for China but Trump converted the plan based on tax/tariff's we see today.

The link about global warming is just science. Not politics. Forget politics, the fact is we are past the tipping point. No matter what the politics are, we are slow roasting our little planet. No matter what we do, China won't stop polluting, so there is no political solution. It's gone beyond politics.

China has shown they just don't care that much about the impact of their economy on the climate. They are going to do whatever it takes to grow their economy until it's the biggest one on earth which it will be soon enough. The leader has declared himself ruler for life. Political dissent is often met with imprisonment. I don't see China moving toward being "green" anytime soon if ever.

neither do the rich in this story and I can't help but wonder if countries really do nothing about it , do they really believe it's a problem ?

Oh, they know it's a problem but most of them are just going to make sure that themselves and their families are insulated from the damage it will do. The billionaires will always be able to have fresh air, good food, clean water and air conditioning.
So put your money someplace safe, don't live too close to the coast, and keep your passport valid.

what I am saying is , if this is a problem , all countries have to do is boycott goods coming out of China , sure it would stall the economy , but if they really believe it is ruining the planet (according to them ) would it not be worth stalling the economy to save the planet ? A thinking person could only conclude , that despite all their talk , they really don't believe it to be a problem .Europe doesn't need the US to do this , they buy enough goods to disrupt China . If you tell me a rock is falling towards my head , if i believe it , I will move , and if I don;t move , what does this tell you about what I believe .

our thoughts on the issue are moot at this point. We've made our collective bed, we will just have to cope with it as best we can. In the mean time, we still have Music smile.gif

USA is second most polluting, then comes EU so stopping China won't be enough smile.gif

My realistic guess is one day disasters and medical expenses will be high enough to make profit meaningless from various causes of pollution. It will be very dark times before such awakening, stuff we wouldn't want to imagine.

Very true! smile.gif I wasn't even going to bring it up. But yes. We are near the top of the heap in causing the problem.

These problems are big. Much bigger than any one country can deal with. We will all eventually have to come together in unity to try to survive. Maybe we will need disaster to get us to realize we are all living in the same house essentially. This one ball of rock winding it's way through space smile.gif
