Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Bourree - Bach Lesson by Kosei Kubota

Yes I am working on the cross string trill...work in progress...I think the counterpoint/fingering is better here; the Bouree is a dance where there is little room for too many dynamics...the counterpoint should be considered the dynamic aspect of the piece...saying that I find it a difficult piece ( difficulty 4 should be more like 7 :))...Kosie rendition is a good example where he is frugal with the dynamics Could you also have a look at https://youtu.be/hPPTmNg3vJc and give me your views, there is a real tricky bit in the B section of the wonderful piece Tárrega: “Adelita" I am using this to sit my graded exams Finally I am not at the stage to be able play a piece live as in the video and get it 95% right..long way to go with that one Ty for all your input

Hi mate!

This new take feels better to my ears. I think that you managed dynamics and groove with more feeling and this is surely related to the fact that you had more days of practice to connect with this tune. There are some obvious details to adjust on this one but the overall sound very good, just keep on practicing the lesson trying to make it sound smoother. There are some moments where your timing could be more natural but this is on the right track, just keep the hard work!

I've also checked the other video which sounds good too. The main problem appears with trills. You need to isolate the licks that include this technique to get used to them.

Hi and Merry Xmas to you!

This is a really good rendition and is a marked improvement upon your previous take.

The tone is really nice, you have good consistency with velocity.. there are dynamics in there as well so it's not just a full-on plough through.

As you said, it's a dance so there has to be a consistent pulse throughout and I think you kept it there very well. You play it quite a bit faster than Kosei.

In the second half there are moments where you move your fingers a fraction too quickly off a note to get to the next one, which gives the result of some notes seeming unfinished and quiet compared to others. That's the only real criticism I can offer here. Good work!

I get your point letchim. Classical music is very tricky not only technique-wise. It was also about an ideology behind the particular period. You are right - headroom for dynamics in Bourre is very small. Thoe are rather very small accent making the melody shine through the basis of low notes line than typical understanding of dynamics coming with ballad or blues playing. Baroque was period when people established that pure sound of instrument is so perfect that it's bad to colorize it with a lot of articulation tools. IT was sort of forbiden. That makes is so specific. I was going thorugh classcal education as well and I do realize hot tricky it is to play it. For me you can be proud of yourself. you did justice to this lesson - no unwanted noises, no random strings hits, no buzzing fingers while playing polyphony. Consider it as your personall success smile.gif Well done
