Altec Lansing as people have said a re great computer speakers. As Muris says though if you need more bass then a woofer is almost certainly a must. Just make sure that your sound card can do at least 3.1 (ie two speakers plus a woofer) - 5.1 and even 7.1 is pretty common for pc speakers and sound cards now a days.

If you just want a woofer, you don't usually need a 2.1 card, a regular stereo card should work fine as the woofer is driven off the stereo signal - thats how mine work. For 5.1 and above you definitely need support for it in the card as Tony says.
