Cool, if you specifically know where you need to improve then it shouldn't be hard to choose lessons.
Just go ahead and pick whatever suits you. You won't get through them all anytime soon and you have to start sometime hehe Here's my pick, beautiful lesson: Steve Lukather lesson -------------------- Ibanez 2550E

Here's how I do it, I'm not saying this is the way for everyone, but you might get ideas from this.
What I use to work on my alternate picking is Zsolt Galambos' Modal Madness series. Especially the first two are really repetitive so they are perfect for plain technique training - though you do get scale practice as well, since it plays through a scale. Don't be intimidated by the killer speed on the main video! The exercise has plenty of slow backing tracks and I myself started working from 70 bpm. So it's good for all levels. Practicing in a repetitive way like that may get boring with time, so I think it's a good idea to try other exercises as well! On the other hand, we have a technique that I think almost everyone trains much too little: vibrato. I strongly recommend Mr. Lavendell's Vibrato lessons, since I find them to be probably the most musical lessons at GMC (just my opinion, really). Mr. Lavendell has a strong, deep "neoclassical-style" vibrato that does take quite a training to achieve. I also recommend you to take a look at Ben's Vibrato Odyssey series, since it is also about vibrato and will give you different ideas and a different approach from Mr. Lavendell's. I'm not saying which one to pick (actually there is lots of good vibrato stuff at GMC but I find those two series the best), actually I'd recommend to pick both. There's no way anyone could put too much in perfecting vibrato... Even if you didn't start practicing any of the lessons I recommend, I do suggest you to take a look at them. Even by just looking and listening you can get good ideas and influences. Kristian |

Some great replies here. Allow me to suggest (for alternate picking work), my own little thread on the topic starting with lesson one and going to today's Video Chat Lesson @ 22 GMT (shameless plug) Lesson 39. Here is a link to the lesson thread with notes, tabs, vids,
http://bit.ly/lessonnotes These lessons are structured to help your right and left hand progress and sync up. If you spend maybe 15 min of practice time each day just on alternate picking maybe adding a lesson each day or one every two days until you get it down, I think you'd be shocked at your progress. Each workout is fairly simple so that your fingers can get on with the playing. Do join us today in the video chat if you can as it's always fun to break up personal practice time with a group session. Practice! Todd Hey every1 I think i need a little help , im trying to get a couple of lessons of diffrent stuff to practice and i dont know wich ones to choose! There´s so many lessons I´m trying to cover many aspects of playing , for example alternate picking , string skipping and such. So far i got Danielo´s right hand basics series , muris alternate workout and joe´s string skipping arpeggio workout. I wonder if there is any lessons you would recommend for other techniques and stuff ( anything really , easy jazz prehaps? ) around skill level 4-5 ( maybe even 6). Sorry if im any trouble to you , then just tell me off , im new here Thanks! |

I think a very good method of finding interesting lessons is by using search option. Try to search something, and you will see advanced search options on the right. There you can enter specific type of technique, sort the lessons, check them out etc..
If you want some specific advices, I can recommend that you learn some chords and scales if you aren't familiar with those. I know these lessons may feel "boring" at first, but they can be very rewarding once mastered. If you need some help regarding lesson plan, let me know. Will be glad to help. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE
