I was just wondering how everyone does their power cords? I use my first finger and my ring finger, ill bar my ring finger if i have to use the string below it.. Ive seen some of you using your first finger and your pinky finger only and some people use their first finger with their ring finger and their pinky finger below it..

I was also wondering if i had been doing it wrong all these years or its just a matter of whats comfortable to you?

Hmm I think most of people use their index and pinky..But you can do it your way its logical - one finger per fret.. smile.gif But than I would add pinky if you need to play a tone more on the string below instead of barring..

I do mine the same exact way as you. It's comfortable/natural for me and it frees up my pinky to do other stuff. Also if you think about the distance of the frets on a power chord why would you use your pinky? I think that's awkward. But I know some people who prefer to do it that way.

I guess there is no wrong way to do it if you're getting the results and you feel comfortable.
Personally I use few ways,without thinking of it,sometimes it's :
first and pinky,
thumb and ring,
first and ring,
first,ring and pinky,
first and middle
first and bare with ring
first and bare with pinky...
no rule. smile.gif

I learnt to use by index and pinky, because I couldn't make that much of a stretch when I started. Once my hands became larger, stronger, and more flexible, I began to use index and ring. When I have to use the string below, I used to barre it, but now I find it much much easier to use my pinky finger. smile.gif smile.gif biggrin.gif laugh.gif cool.gif unsure.gif ph34r.gif

I've always done it index and pinky if it's two, and index, middle ring if I want to add the octave. If I need to adjust for a song I guess I can, but that's how I default.

I usually do index and ring. I'll bar the A and D strings with the ring finger if I'm adding the octave. If I'm not adding the octave I rest a bit of the ring finger on D to mute it.

Using the pinkie's more comfortable to me but I'm trying to work on my reach so I'm making the ring finger do it.

I play power chords in many different ways depending on what is coming up next in the song. There isn't really a wrong way.

I do it with my index and ring finger, and when I add an octave I add the pinky. I don't think you should worry about doing it wrong, if it's comfortable, it's good. I used t worry about how my fingers were placed when sliding around and stuff, but then I saw a youtube video with Jeff Loomis playing, and his fingers are doing the same so I stopped worrying about that.

I didn't see that lesson when it came out (I tend to avoid "advanced" lessons still). That's crazy stuff though. Really cool. Looks like it'll make my hands hurt, but I'm working on my flexibility anyway so that might be a good thing.

You don't have to play whole lesson at once, take few grips to extend your vocabulary,
later on you can add more pieces from it or to play whole lesson. smile.gif
